Wack Things In Taiwan 2021

probably some fortune teller at the night market decided that number and the TSAR decided its sufficient enough data.

I still can’t find a webpage with the river accident video, but it’s been circulating on Line.

Here’s a nice one. If it was done on purpose,it was a pretty sweet maneuver.

The amount of dangerous twits on the road here is really something isn’t it.

The river accident video circulating on Line is fake news. That vid is from the Philippines last month.

What bins are on the streets do rubbish can blow out of from the wind? I don’t see many bins in the streets.

Also, rats dragging stuff out of bins does not support the hypothesis that’s the rubbish is not a problem. The rats indicate there is a hygiene issue.

Hmmm. Does that not show the problem is with household waste collection.

Those are THE WRONG WORDS. So Bob’s my aunt.

Demonstrating the corrosive effect of Chinese on mental processing, perhaps.

OK have fun then.:wink::joy:

That would sound like a sluice opened somewhere upstream, though I suppose it could have been a sudden downpour in the catchment.

Doesn’t sound especially stupid to me, just bad luck.

Taipei Deputy Mayor Tsai Ping-kun (蔡炳坤) said that all six of the missing individuals were Taipei citizens. Taipei Department of Social Welfare said it would give NT$20,000 (US$690) to the family of each deceased victim, per CNA.

Should make them feel better. Seriously, just say nothing.

I feel so bad for these kids. Two are still missing. How do they handle this sort of situation? I assume that volunteers won’t be helping because it is too dangerous?

Does Taiwan not have a warning system that a sluice is gonna open?

Surely it seems common sense given the amount of old folks who fish at the rivers. Just pop a loudspeaker every hundred yards down a river, a siren goes off 5 minutes before.

This is not restricted to Taiwan.

Long ago, when I had a proper job, I get the last tube home after a post-work pub session with coworkers. Im tired and a bit drunk, and I lean back and rest my head on the nice soft cushion,

Er…hang on, Nice soft (squashy even) head cushions are standard London Underground issue now?

And whence cometh that smell?..

Of course it COULD have been left there by Taiwanese tourists, but I bet it wasnt

Jeez, thats a new one. Its a jungle out there.

With juice,

Whats the difference? (dead v, without vital signs) Body temperature, maybe? Or more likely brain activity, tho i dunno if they can measure that in the field.

Assume “dead” has officially been pronounced by a doctor, “without vital signs” have not yet been officially examined.

Thanks, Ill maybe add that phrase to my tiny stock, though I would think anyone with the mental flexibility to decode my pronunciation would be likely to suss the pretty obvious import of my gestures.

What I think was happening with the first shop was a reference frame problem.

Since no DIY, customers would be likely to bring the intact wheel or the bike for repair/replacement. Probably costs little or nothing on top of the cost of a tube, so the guy perhaps had never been asked for just a tube before,

Second shop was on NCKU campus so foreign DIY weirdness might not have been entirely unknown to them. Certainly wasnt better language skills, since I didnt say anything.

Xindian residents received a text warning yesterday that the sluice gates upriver from Bitan were going to open at 6pm. Caused mass confusion as the SMS was only in English. Sent a Chinese version about 15 minutes later.
