Wack Things in Taiwan 2026

I view this as a plus. I too don’t want to eat any of that!

Guy

Wild take, but one most likely hilariously oversimplified way to both protect rural farmers and help curtail the rising rates of diet-fueled diseases is for the gov to try to utilize whoever is seen as the religious authority here (not sure there is) to declare that using junk food for baibai is insulting to the gods, and only healthy fruits and veggies are considered worthy. :joy:

Lol yeah it sounds stupid to type, but imagine if society was somehow manipulated into not buying heaps of snacks for baibai. It’s certainly not like this junk doesn’t end up getting eaten!

Big food companies lose – no doubt that would cause potentially ugly friction – but new winners could be carved out, and it would probably have at least a minutely positive impact on public health, especially in the south.

Of course this naive idea would fail though: part of the fun for almost everyone is eating the addictive stuff after.

Haha looks like the gov is trying:

Have to remember that they buy that stuff mostly because it’s really cheap and large volume.
The wackiest thing is seeing it placed on very expensive equipment to protect it. And it’s always one brand talk about brainwashing.

I mentioned this case to the wife who had the same comment as you. If such issues as K-pop band tickets are so important to you then…well, good luck with that. Everytime I see some young person stressing out about such issues…like while standing in line overnight to buy some new toy which is becoming popular…I always tell the wife that I rarely see poor, busy young people tossing themselves off buildings due to stress…even though they might be getting up early and staying up late to help parents make money as some small food stall. Some young people are just too busy and scraping by to have time to feel sorry for themselves…while others are taking time off work (if they have a job) to stand in line for stuff.

Wack things thread? More like old heads get mad at young people for doing things they don’t like. Gotta change this forum to Forumolda at this point.

Or Forumyounga when we talk about the wack a-gong’s doing classic old people things

At first I thought his motivation was wack, but now I am wondering if it’s more that the bomber expecting anyone to believe his supposed motivation that is wack.

Feel free to move this to one of the China threads…

Seems to me this applies to Taiwanese people in general. It isn’t a culture that deals with confrontation very well. I remember in China. It was all smiles until the weapons came out. No surprise that so many Taiwanese people have weapons in their cars.

Sounds like someone didn’t get their BTS tickets

Did someone say “BTS”?

Guy

I may have made a mistake, I’m not completely up to speed with my Korean boy bands, like the young people are these days…

Another positive about changing the name, the people who don’t even fucking live here won’t feel weird (they don’t anyway) posting about random shit on the Taiwan message board!

I’ve made friends here after years of living in Taiwan. I don’t feel weird about keeping in touch with my friends.

Also, I mostly post about US politics. Can’t remember my last post on a Taiwanese food thread. Does it still suck? Haven’t had a bad meal since I left!

Have you ever had friends? Ones that didn’t touch you weird, I mean…

Weird response, projecting lol? You are too old/educated to be talking like that. It’s definitely wack, but you aren’t in Taiwan anymore. Maybe we can make a new thread for “Wack in TT’s new home he that he won’t say where but is better than Taiwan!” Your food takes were stale and your new routine constantly responding about “skilled drivers” is equally as drab. After 6 years on the forum I’d hope you would learn how to quote multiple people in one response instead of multiposting 3-5 messages at a time.

I have said where I am, but it’s nice to know you aren’t so obsessed with me that you missed it

I don’t know, my burger thread got a lot of compliments

If you think the driving is skilled, that doesn’t reflect poorly on me

After having been a mod on the forum, I have an idea of which comments might be deleted (such as this recent exchange). I divided the comments so that at least one might stay, something intelligent but you may not have recognized it. If you want to step up as a mod, please message the admin. I’m sure they will value your contributions as much as I do

Me sitting outside a coffeeshop on the corner.
Sccoter box right in front of me.

Opening up my delicious egg salad sandwich, life is good.

About to bite into that sucker when an old guy pulls up in the scooter box , locks eyes with me and proceeds to pick a big booger out his nose.

I feel special.

FTFY - I mean, it is Taiwan… :man_shrugging:

At my farmhouse in Hualien one night around 20:00 I heard gun fire not far from my house. I went out to investigate and saw three guys in a pickup truck carrying rifles. I asked him what was going on and he said he had a permit to hunt mountain pigs. Right as he was talking another guy walked up with two rabbits he had just shot. I had heard about these guys who are hired to hunt the pigs. We would hear them herding the pigs through the mountain using fireworks. Well, now they were in front of my house and continued driving another 50 meters where they got out and started shining lights up into the trees on another guy’s land. I watched for about 15 minutes as they continued shining the lights up into the trees.
This was about the same time that a guy would almost every night drive around near our house shining lights up into the trees. At the local temple I asked about this guy and, yes, they knew him. They said he claimed he was hunting rabbits. I never found out what type of birds these guys were after. As for another guy…he would use a tape recording of a bird and lay out a trap for them. I think he got tired of me watching him from the road. I have also seen a guy collecting quail chicks from the land in front of ours.

I was not happy about the gun toting guys. They obviously were up to no good but with a license in hand what to do? They were also aborigines which from what a local park manager told us…no one is willing to discipline any aborigines even when caught illegally hunting.
