Water Supply in Taiwan

The point about nuclear, I believe, is that desalination is not economical or even possible because of our energy insecurity. If we had an abundance of cheap power we could build, operate, and transport water from desalination plants

Ahh, ok. In that sense, I see the point. that is more about potable water production.

on that note I have often wondered the feasibility of coupling desalination plants with salt fields. not in the sense that it would be the most high density water production, but in the sense that water could be a byproduct of salt production and lower the energy inputs into processing water via evaporation.

this is way out of my wheelhouse, so just a thought.

If there is excess electricity it can be used for desalination, but Taiwan can’t do that because there’s barely enough for even small scale AC use.

Are you saying desalination is the fix for taiwans water security?

I dont think so. I do think it can be a piece of the pie. much like wind and solar can be a piece of the pie for electricity security. but we have rain, we have land mass. logically, and cheaply, and easily, protecting those free resources makes more sense. unlike Singapore that filters sewage and desalinates the water due to their tiny land mass and extreme over population ratio, we dont have to rely on those extreme measures. but I agree we should develop them.

Ideally not using extremely energy hungry tech to do something we get for next to free with very little risk to safety and very little pollution caused, is worth protecting and maintaining.

I view this as a logic issue.

Seems like we must adapt. Nothing stays the same for very long.

Look at how quickly we got to where we’re at

Nothing wrong with adapting. Everything wrong with intentionally doing unnecessary actions that sabotage and affect everyone else in incredibly negative ways. I view this as a dont be selfish issue. but on scale.

Humans only care about short term profits, this is the same in all countries.

I think the California problem is they let almost all of the water runoff into the ocean because they are protecting a number of fish and other animal species.

Yes, this is the retardation we are discussing now. we know better. We call ourselves intelligent. and yet we spend intense effort to prove otherwise.

Even if a percentage of the population is retarded, we are spending a large percentage of our earnings (thus, time) paying.people to be held to a higher standard. A standard I have yet to witness!

Here is an article from 2014 and a more recent decision to allow more water to be captured.

Only way to fix this is to become a hive like society. But we’re not bees or ants.

I’ve heard about the California water issue forever. They have an amazing water system to deal with the issues. The elder gov Brown started the system.

They could catch and distribute water. It was said to be a marvel of engineering. Environmental concerns from activists are largely responsible for the water woes - according to some

Yea I get the feeling California doesn’t care about the people, they care more about the animals.

If we are not intelligent, then oppression and slavery might be the only way. However, I disagree. I for one hold human beings to a higher standard. If we cannot figure out these incredibly simplistic issues, then I would concede we can treat each other like garbage and disregard everything we have evolved and just whip each other into servitude.

we do this based on choice. nothing else. there is nothing difficult about building big reservoirs and managing land better. nothing. we just let corrupt morons be in charge for too long. probably because on an individual basis the majority of us are also corrupt morons serving our own interests with direct consequences to our neighbours. there is a fairly easy balance between being full on selfish entitled greedy beings and full on ant level slavery like beings.

people are animals. they are just selfish and entitled, as per my.above post.

To be fair, the water security issue in Taiwan isnt that similar to california. there are some similarities (population density for example), but it is a completely different monster with different sollutions.

We’re just oversized apes. People in charge only cares about the immediate benefit a project will bring. Nobody cares if the benefit will only be realized 100 years from now, because we will all be dead by then. This is why you will never ever raise capital to build say an asteroid mining company, nobody will invest in it unless you can demonstrate that you can turn a profit within 2 years.

Thing like land management is far too long term, and the professionals who are in charge really only cares about the immediate benefit they might get from a bid, and if they will lose a job unless they can realize a benefit in 2 years.

We need a world where all humans are networked where all thoughts are shared equally, otherwise we are all going to be dealing with trust issues and fog of war.

sure. I agree in the jaded view that as a whole we are pretty dumb. my issue is we always pride ourselves in being smart.

here is the difference. we already are con.ected globally, at large, with information. that excuse is over and done with. We already know what is happening. for example our eater tables are getting fucked. we already praise ourselves for being so damn better than apes and cockroaches. yet we see ourselves doing something that will undoubtedly fuck our water supply without question. we have very simple and attainable.sollutions. and yet we dont act.

the issue, as I see it, is too many people have your jaded perspective and wont lift a finger to better the situation. this is the issue. we can all do this so god damned easily, and yet we choose not to. not, we cant. not, it’s hard. just, we dont.

No I mean more than this. I mean you’re in a room with someone, like a meeting, and you can hear everyone’s thoughts, reasons, and underlying causes. If someone’s trying to pull a fast one on you you will know it right away, as nothing is hidden. But you will also know why he might want to pull a fast one on you too.

It’s basically stuff that makes trust obsolete, no fogs of war, you see what everyone else sees.

This is what we need for effective decision making.

To that (trust), I absolutely agree.

on the other side, we can simultaneously strive towards trust while also not allowing illegal and detrimental water ravaging from the water tables. this is simple and easily implemented.
