I am trying to remember but I remember heavy water and light water are used to identify the ages and processes that allowed those molecules to get to where they are found. Studied it myself at one point but have to revisit.

You can’t count on democracy to solve anything. Most people have no idea what it takes to run a country and would only vote for themselves free gifts from the treasury. Ones who succeed in a democracy does so because of their orator ability, not because they are adults.
It’s 99% emotion basically. This is also why most countries are autocratic despite what their political system is. We all want dictators.
By the way this is also why we have kings in the old days. Basically they pledge fealty to a king to fight their battles for them.
Not even close - California captures around half the water for use, leaving only about half for the environment (and that doesn’t mean letting it just run into the ocean). Then there’s extremes like Owens lake…
Like I said, I’ve heard about these problems for years. A show I’ve listened to for years has 2 different California farmers, and another guest who writes about west coast issues - talk about and discuss - California water woes.
This is one of the recent articles that pops up concerning this matter. It quotes gov research that says 95% of rainwater runs off into the ocean.
Maybe you can point me in the right direction as you say my information is not even close.
Rainwater is not just a subset of water (your first statement was they let almost all the water runoff into the ocean), and that figure is talking specifically about the heavy rains from the atmospheric rivers this year, about a specific part of the water system. Given all that, if the environmental regulations were relaxed, most of the big rainfalls would still not be captured (that seems obvious).
(edit: the specific issue was some wanted more water diverted from the ‘first flush’, when flows are reduced. in a dry year, upwards of 80-90% of water is diverted. edit2: that reservoir will probably reach capacity with the snowpack this year - so diverting more from the environment would not have resulted in more water stored. edit 3: having the reservoir full early hurts flood mitigation with so much snowpack.).
From my memory -
the farmers complained that even with all of the recent rains and snow - California will go from drought to drought because of policies in place.
After all of the wildfires and the huge amounts of snow, they expect major flooding when the snow melts, and very soon after - drought conditions again.
These farmers are probably full of crap and have no idea what they are talking about.
That’s true - one year doesn’t fix long term issues. That should be obvious, and is to everyone except those not concerned about the environment that crawl out of the woodwork everytime it rains in California to ask ‘what drought?!’ And it’s obvious because it’s getting drier, population is increasing, farmers keep doing stupid shit, and the antiquated water rights laws results in things like Saudis buying land / water rights in desert areas like California (and Arizona and New Mexico) to grow water intensive crops like alfafa to export home because they’ve banned it at home because it’s stupid to grow that shit in dry places.
