When the New Atheists became prominent it was not really respectable to proclaim your atheism. Now, more people are comfortable with it, and Christianity has been on a steady decline

That’s probably the correct answer. He framed it as overstating conclusions, straw manning, and theological/philosophical/historical (not all of them are guilty of every one) illiteracy.

Yes, atheism has a problem with racism, sexism, and rightism generally among a section of its population- not as much as Christianity, especially among Evangelicals- but it’s definitely there. It’s because atheism is simply a lack of belief in God or gods; not an all-encompassing worldview. Karl Marx, Nietzsche, David Hume, Ayn Rand, George Orwell, Peter Thiel (JD Vance’s owner), and Christopher Hitchens are/were all atheists of very different views.
It’s like lumping Pope Francis and Donald Trump as Christians.

Donald Trump is not a Christian. He’s never read the Bible and never set foot in church before he became President except for weddings and funerals.
