What is a blinker (turn signal) for?

What is a turn signal for?

  • to signal your intention to turn at an upcoming road or change lanes
  • to indicate that ‘you are’ turning now
  • to lose your tail by indicting left and going right
  • absolutely nothing
  • none of the above

Among the many irritating demented driving habits (or lack thereof) the locals proudly demonstrate each and every time I drive, their use of the turn signal (blinker or flasher for some) is of the most perplexing behavior patterns have ever seen. It’s almost as if they think a cruise missile is on their tail and that a last minute evasive maneuver will save them from certain death…or is it the humiliation of knowing where you want to go and thus indicating to others that you have a plan?..or is it understood here that a turn signal is used to indicate that you are in the process of turning at that moment in case no one else had figured that out?..whatever it is, there seems to be a great mystery in this land of ace drivers.

People in Taiwan don’t use it because they think it’s broken and works only partly … works … doesn’t work … works … doesn’t work … works … doesn’t work … works … doesn’t work … works … doesn’t work … :roflmao:

In Taiwan it is used to show where you are turning “now” not your intention or anything and a warning for you to start braking

“in taiwan, the lines painted on the road are for reference only. sometimes, it’s a suggestion”

I can’t imagine what the functions of the car can be used for, in taiwan…

Why would the Taiwanese even use the blinker? The blinker is to inform other drivers behind them as to what they are doing next. As we all know, the Taiwanese drivers only focus on themselves and what is in front of them. So the blinker is a useless in Taiwan. I do love it though, when that random driver uses it. They must have lived overseas sometime in their lives.

Wow. According to the vote, at least twenty percent of Forumosans are Chinese or Taiwanese.

The right blinker is to let other drivers know that I’m about to turn right so you’d better hurry up and pass me on the right. The left blinker is to remind me to turn left, or something like that. It has no bearing on other drivers. At least that’s how I think it works here. Am I doing it right?

The blinkers here are used for the same purpose as the rearview mirror…

You have a rearview mirror? :loco:

There is nothing that I hate more than when I come up to an intersection and there is no dedicated turning lane and the cars that are waiting ahead of me don’t have their turn signals on (to either turn left or right), and when the light turns green they finally decide to use the signal…so, each and every car that waited behind the said ‘cunt face’ has to merge into the other lane to proceed ahead… :fume:

I give this thread 2 hours before we starting hearing about how we shouldn’t impart our Western ideals on Eastern driving.

Yesterday’s subject was about cutting in line.

A turning signal is meant to deceive other motorists about the precise angle of a change in direction.

How about those drivers that actually use their turning indicators, only they flick the switch about 1.5 km before they actually turn?

what are you driving in a lane for?

You are supposed to follow the white line like a scalextric car so if this happens you nudge around the turning car and if not can nip behind the car and speed past the other stupid people who use road manners and order

I’ve resorted to this type of approach for a few intersections where I know this will happen everytime…

Here it is…

I actually use it as a means of displaying my Zen nature. I have it on at all times but never turn.

Is the blinkers we are talking about is still orange color or does the blue, white, green colors also count? Not the ones on the side of trucks but actually on car turn signals that are pimped out.

The right blinker is an invitation for scooters to come and just cruise along at my right side, going exactly the same speed I’m going. :fume:

They serve no purpose except to burn excess petrol and to add some colour to your ride.
