What (movies) are you watching? (2007)
Superstars should not be superheroes. Use the roles to elevate the actor not the other way around.
That was the reasoning behind the casting of Superman, they originally offered the part to Robert Redford. Then you would go “Oh look, here’s Robert Redford wearing tights and flying around” not Superman. If that makes any sense…

I’ll lend you the book if you want. It’s very good.

It does.

btw, was Ghost Rider supposed to be like 45 years old??

Man-Thing, which is Marvel’s answer to Swamp-Thing is on HBO tomorrow night at 9pm.

I am a big Swamphead, but always liked Man-Thing. It’s hard to not like elementals that can talk.

MT was released straight to video, as Spiderman, Hulk, FF, DareDevil all had a stronger following, so this will be the first time viewing for me. whoot

I saw the German film “Das Leben der Anderen” (The Lives of Others).
It was fantastic!
I was emotionally engaged into the story.

th

Idiocracy was good. Pretty funny. I’m sure this movie has a cult following in Smokem U.

Haven’t been to the flicks for donkey’s years, just watching DVDs.

HBO’s Rome
Exquisitely detailed in every way, but I found it difficult to accept these two common soldiers were everywhere and involved in every history-shaking event.

Tony Richardson’s Charge of The Light Brigade
Slow in spots with some inaccuracies, but beautiful to behold. I liked the Punch-style cartoon sequences used to link different scenes.

Richard Attenborough’s Oh, What A Lovely War!
A classic movie only recently released on DVd. A masterfully crafted musical / satire / war movie, whose cast resembles a who’s-who of British theatrical talent. There’s a lot to absorb in this one. Multiple viewings required.

Black Snake Moan: Samuel is great. Enjoyed the guitar and blues. And, of course, Ricci’s very nice knockers.

Breach: Very good.

Short Bus: Weird. Really, really weird. Don’ watch this if you’re homophobic. First scene is a cack. Strange.

The Host or Gwaemul (괴물): About to watch this one. Some say it’s really stupid. Some gave it good reviews. I’m guessing it’s bad and stupid. Someone please shoot me.

Holy COW, the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are negative! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such hatred of a movie from reviewer after reviewer. http://imdb.com/title/tt0477051/ Not just ‘don’t watch it’, but ‘don’t watch it or your testicles might fall off.’ People are reportedly leaving in the middle of it.

I just got around to watching Notes On A Scandal.

Gripping, innit?

I kept thinking “Someone is going wear an axe soon.”

Also saw United 93; like reading the first part of the 911 Commission Report. Oddly enough, the scariest part was when the hijackers were arms out, on the plane, hands up, praying. It was unnerving.

Imagine getting scared at a Christian crossing himself. lol
What a world we live in.

I just caught a very twisted film called Sublime. It stars Tom Cavanaugh (TV’s Ed) and Kathleen York (Oscar winning movie Crash). Cavanaugh in particular is riveting as the patient who has had a simple exploratory procedure turn into a horrific nightmare of epic proportions. You may not want to go to the hospital after this one. And for anyone thinking of a colonoscopy…YIKES!!!

If you are a fan of David Lynch, you’ll not want to miss this flick. Director Tony Krantz is obviously influenced by the master of the horror suspense genre. He takes a real good shot at emulating Lynch, but falls a few feet short. Still a worthwhile viddy.

From the “Where are they now” category, the film features ex-sweathog Laurence Hilton Jacobs (Boom Boom Washington). He portrays Mandingo, the sum of all our fears and does so in a very compelling fashion. You won’t want this guy to ever say “Hi there” to you, that’s for sure.

The film also features Cas Anvar, a Montreal theatre director responsible for that city’s Shakespeare in the Park festivals. Never liked him much as a a person (he put me thru a completely humiliating audition way back in the day), but he does a very good job in this movie.

Of course, you’ll not want to miss seeing Katherine Cunningham-Eve either, especially when she erm, apologizes…

I watched The Pursuit of Happyness on my computer two weeks ago. That was cute. I am trying to get The Number 23, but I’m having I/O problems.

Besides, my popcorn is much better than a movie theatre’s.

The sound system on my laptop is nice enough, two speakers taller than my monitor and a subwoofer to boot, so my movie watching experience is pretty pleasant (plus I can wear my pajamas and pause for breaks).

Freddy “Boom Boom” Washington’s back?!

Well, better horror than porn. Or L. Ron Hubbard flicks…

5 Speakers plus subwoofer with DTS and 6 foot wide projector screen at my place, baby !

(just showing off)

Hey, my monitor’s only 15". It’s good enough. Enough to drive my neighbors crazy when I crank up my music (it wouldn’t be so loud if I didn’t have to drown out the 8am jackhammering across the hall)…

A friend put on Saw III for me the last time I was down. Yikes. I’m still scarred. I know I’ll end up seeing I and II though also.

I recently picked up Director’s Cut and/or re-release bonus footage DVDs of Jacob’s Ladder, Good Will Hunting, Marathon Man, American Werewolf In London, A Bronx Tale, Altered States, Exorcist III, Videodrome, Hoffa, and The Howling. Bonanza, if you like any of those titles.

I’d love that Mer! JL was an instant classic. Awesome awesome movie!

Videodrome…Debra Harry.yum yum…burning her boobie with a cigarette…kinky kinky…don’t ya just love Cronenberg.

Oh, and mine’s 42".

Black Snake Moan
Story’s similar to Holy Smoke, which I’d say is a better movie. But BSM’s got a very cool soundtrack.
