What movies are you watching (2022)

I have seen Lincoln and Inside Llewyn Davis and I do not remember him in them at all.

OK you convinced me to watch this. Enjoy Gilliam, Driver and Don Quixote so can’t be that bad despite reviews.

Yessssss! Even if you don’t love it, you’ll get mileage from it.

Also good…

This was such a gem!

This was a disappointment

I could not get inside Inside Llewelyn Davies either. I peaked after watching Adaptation, it would appear. Can’t face anymore of that stuff.

it is probably my least favourite Coen Brothers movie

‘The Power of the Dog’ 9/10
Decided to watch this on Netflix after I saw its Best Picture nomination. It’s a good film. Reminds me a bit of a mix between ‘There Will Be Blood’ and ‘Brokeback Mountain.’ Great performances, especially the kid playing Peter, and beautiful cinematography. There’s one glaring plot hole, which kinda bugs me, but overall highly recommended.

i don’t think i caught that

how did the boy Peter know that his mom would give away the hides and Phil would need a spare hide to poison him (and also know he would cut his hand) when he originally skinned the hide off the cow with the anthrax? But besides that, pretty good!

he might not have known exactly how he would use the anthrax, only that he could use it to poison his enemy somehow when the opportunity arose

I’ll take it because I want it to work!

For some reason (a laissez-faire attitude to my own life, probably) I thought it was an Andy Kaufman vehicle. Now I’m gonna have to try to watch it again. Burn after reading is my least favourite, it’s a great film but highly derivative compared to the rest of their ouevre (second French term in this paragraph, Superking is losing his imperialistic grip). I really enjoyed Buster Scruggs the best, simply because it was so unique.

Well worth it, much better than Burn After Reading, and you won’t have expectations as to it being a different sort of Coen film.

Crushingly explodes some myths of the creative spirit. Sometimes, it doesn’t matter that you are undeniably talented and no “sell-out”, you just had no luck and some bad timing.

if you’ve only seen it once, the obvious comment is

although i’ve only seen it once, too!

Sometimes I wish there was a double like button that I could use for your post and Deca’s previous post.

I thought ‘Lady Killers’ was the universally regarded Coen bros bomb?

i liked it

I actually haven’t seen it, but it always seems to get ranked last in critics ranking of their filmography. I’ll get around to it one day to draw my own opinion.

Bbububububububububububububbub, Outer…space.

with Justin Timberlake. Remember him now?

Paterson is a must. His nasty divorce movie is really good too.
