What movies are you watching (2022)

Yeah, I loved that twist. Should have seen it coming, but I was surprised.

This one had me riveted. Almost like being there:

Bad Times at the El Royale

Good movie if you’re into this type.

Good actors fun whodunnit it turns into a bit of a slasher movie with B-movie slight Pulp Fiction vibe.

I remember being very disappointed, never gave it a second watch

The Best Years of Our Lives - or: The Best Movie I’ve Seen This Year. I was blown away by how engaging and modern it was. Everything about it was perfect.

Windfall. I give it a 2.5 / 5. Being generous with that.

This one?

Yes.

Yeah, it’s really good.

The Jinx the life and deaths of Robert Durst

I heard someone say this is the best TV they have ever watched.

I know absolutely nothing about it

My Prime account starting acting funny (piggybacking from the ex) and Netflix (piggybacking from mom) doesn’t have much interesting right now, so I went back to AppleTV free previews (Shudder kept me entertained for a few weeks).

First I tried Paramount (7 days free). I tried 5 or 6 movies and none were available in my country/region.

So now am trying AMC preview (1 month). Started with familiar movies because I’m working and it is just background noise. First was the original Red Dawn (in honour of Ukraine’s struggle against Russian invaders), and next is Grindhouse (double feature)

Wonder if it will show here? Of course, the absolute last soldier fighting for the IJA was a Taiwanese Amis aborigine:

Teruo Nakamura (中村 輝夫, Nakamura Teruo , born Attun Palalin ;[1][2] also known as Suniuo ;[3][4] 8 October 1919 – 15 June 1979) was a Taiwanese-Japanese soldier of the Imperial Japanese Army who fought for Japan in World War II and did not surrender until 1974. He was the last known Japanese holdout to surrender after the end of hostilities in 1945. Nakamura was an Amis aborigine, born 8 October 1919. In November 1943, he enlisted in a Takasago Volunteer Unit of the Imperial Japanese Army.

Hey, my father-in-law’s old unit.

Nakamura was stationed on Morotai Island, in the Dutch East Indies, shortly before the Allies overran that island in the September 1944 Battle of Morotai.

At the time, the Japanese public’s perceptions of Nakamura and his repatriation differed considerably from those of earlier holdouts, such as Hirō Onoda, who had been discovered only a few months earlier and was both an officer and ethnically Japanese. As a private in a colonial unit in foreign soil, Nakamura was not entitled to a pension (due to a 1953 change in the law on pensions), thus received only the minimal sum of ¥68,000 (US $227.59 at the time, US $1,200 in 2020).[1] This caused a considerable outcry in the press, motivating the Taiwanese government and the public to donate a total of ¥4,250,000 to Nakamura.

I have stayed longer than I should have in the Philippines more than once.

And it wasn’t because of a war.

You overstayed your visa…or your welcome?

As boring as Death Proof was in some scenes, it was still watchable. I fast-forwarded through Grindhouse… I have to wonder if it was bad as I remember, but I never ff so…

I overstayed my plans. Got distracted.

Chicken Run (2000)

You’ve seen it. You’ve loved it. You’ve laughed at the bathos of feeling sorry for chickens.

Watch it again. It’s well worth it.

If you haven’t seen it, address that issue pronto.

Zero Fucks Given.

Young woman (who you may have seen in Blue is the Warmest Colour) works and gets worked over by “Wing”, a stand-in for Ryanair. But she also has some personal issues. Very good showcase of how life is on the receiving end of ultracapitalism while seeking refuge in bland eurodisco partying. That phone-sub cancelling scene alone make this worth a look.

I just watched it like… last weekend. My daughter was just born when the film was released, and I had no way of making it to the theater. I’ve been trying to find a way to watch it, legally, and one day it showed up on my CHT MOD menu. It is indeed amazing. Also made me appreciate Andrew’s Amazing Spider Man series more. Although, also a bit sad because the actors sounds like they all feel like their journey with their characters are done.

I had a blast watching that movie. It’s hard to believe it’s based on a true story, since at parts it felt like a serious version of the Undercover Brother.

By the way, I’ve been wanting to watch Jojo Rabbit. Is there anyway to watch it in Taiwan?

Been wanting to catch this one as well.
