I have not been this uncomfortable watching something in forever. I don’t even want to say I love it because I was thoroughly disgusted and horrified during the entire sitting. The combination of the three layers - the sound of Auschwitz in the background, the picturesque garden and seemingly normal family, and the psychotic evil of the Nazis in the centre - is pure genius. There are so many blink and you’ll miss it moments that deepen the despair and barbarity as you go on, and everything culminates in a final sequence that makes you want to bile the fuck out.
It really is an astonishing and terrifying piece of art. I will be thinking about this for a very, very long time.
