I’m (a) a social recluse, and (b) one of those people who finds it difficult to juggle a job, my family, and a functioning social life. I rarely even meet my IRL friends! Maybe I’ll meet Noel one day, but I’ll let others take the lead for now. Also I am overseas for most of the summer missing out on the joys of typhoon season, so not technically in K Town now. But let’s say in 6 months or so, if Noel finds himself in a Kaohsiung jail after firebombing a 7/11 or something, he can DM me and I’ll bail him out.

A pretty solid choice, in my opinion: lower costs than Taipei, more sunshine than Taipei, plus easy access to the water, solid infrastructure (MRT, youbikes, HSR, TR, a functioning airport, etc) . . . hell I might move there too!

I’m in Australia now and I find the vast majority of people pretty polite. Teens, homeless, and those shuffling out of a pub late at night are sometimes mouthy, but who listens to them anyway?
TBH ppl on average much more polite than New York, my other home.
Comparisons to Taiwan are kind of hard though as East Asian societies tend to avoid direct confrontations. So many are polite on the surface in Taiwan but when you dig a bit deeper they’re sometimes cold. Here, at least, you know where people stand.

I suppose one point that could be thought through is how One Nation continues to have quite a few fans. Any honest analysis should take that seriously.
But this is taking us quite far from the topic of the thread. K-Town is a nice place to meet up and I personally hope that @Noel connects with great people there.

It all depends where in Australia you are, and in large cities which suburb/area.
I’ve faced the car hate of bicycles in the past but it was mainly out in the suburbs on fast arterial roads, and usually perpetrated by those in utes (cheap australian trucks).
After you have seen a cyclist in Sydney’s CBD wield a bicycle lock (or the bike itself) in a confrontation with a car, it might become an apt comparison.
However, with the death of the bicycle courier industry, I think those scenes are reducing. Cycling is becoming a more gentrified pursuit.
