With Hong Kong down, is Taiwan Asia's new media hub?

Guardian has reporters stationed in Taiwan too, in addition to Telegraph.

Did China warn Taiwan independence ‘means war’? Yes? So you’re saying the BBC shouldn’t report what China says about Taiwan?

I’m not talking about the headline…The content !!

Taiwan was not suddenly formed from a ‘civil war’. Before the Chinese administration took over it was a Japanese colony . Later it had another seminal change to democracy in 1989 and then free elections in 2000s. And it’s history stretches far back in time…

It’s not simply one side of China versus the other after 1949 and suddenly Taiwan became Taiwan.

Always framing articles that Taiwan was formed from a civil war is just playing into one China propaganda.
Nobody keeps referring to America as being from an independence war with UK in 1778 or whatever every time America is mentioned.

The only mention of the civil war is this

  • China and Taiwan have had separate governments since the end of the Chinese civil war in 1949. Beijing has long tried to limit Taiwan’s international activities and both have vied for influence in the Pacific region

Which is part of a section entitled “China and Taiwan: The basics” designed to give people who don’t know much about Taiwan some background. It also contains the following statements

  • Tensions have increased in recent years and Beijing has not ruled out the use of force to take the island back
  • Although Taiwan is officially recognised by only a handful of nations, its democratically elected government has strong commercial and informal links with many countries
  • Like most nations, the US has no official diplomatic ties with Taiwan, but a US law does require it to provide the island with the means to defend itself

Shocking! Provocative!

It’s repetitive and boring and misleading .
Why not say ex Japanese territory Taiwan ?
Taiwan was also basically occupied by the KMT . It wasn’t like the KMT were from here.

At least they always present Taiwan as seperate from China in maps. The BBC is not great but most european media outlets are a bit more tame compared to their US counterparts. This also goes for airlines with the whole “Taiwan China” concessions.

What is the new mediahub in East Asia then ?
Tokyo ?
Maybe these days there aren’t so many reporters like the old days anyway.

Well it looks like at least one BBC reporter will be stationed in Taiwan. Sick of his treatment for reporting on East Turkestan.

I don’t know who he is but good for Taiwan.

Even worse is BBC in Spanish talking about Taiwan. They start off the bat saying Taiwan is a provocateur…

Currently, there is also New Tang Dynasty -Falun Gong pro Trump guys- broadcasting in Central America. Oh joy… not.

Depends- Commie China claims to be the legitimate successor to Republic of China, which in turn claimed to be successor of Chinese empire, which was definitely the owner of Taiwan, and was recognised as such.

One problem the ROC is already here!

You’re late to the party. This story has already been posted here:

These developments are also not about “Hong Kong down”; it’s about the impossibility for the CBC to continue operating in Beijing.

Much like was the impossibility for Hong Kong to continue operating in Beijing :expressionless:

I’ve met a few of these journalists and they are mostly desperate to get back into China. It’s too hard these days, and usually only giving a few or one visas for each publication. There really is a limit that can be achieved from Taipei
