I suppose this is one way it evolved over time. The genesis seems to be a 1930s African American expression ‘Stay Woke’ centered around racialised existence.
Seems to have become controversial when other social justice initiatives hitched their wagons to it; so judgement there. It also makes perfect sense that with many constituents clamouring for redress there would be muddying of the waters and backlash.
Which begs the questions:
- is there injustice?
- if so, who should decide which grievance is worthy to be aired, abd appropriate redress?
