Words that make you cringe

using “tete a tete” if you are not French really gets to me…

i.e. some businessman saying

“we had a little tete a tete this morning”

similarly using vis a vis…

there you go Mr Hill… you got your 200

SWEET! Thanks be to the funk.

Now then, why do people insist on saying ‘Australia’ with a funny accent?

You mean like Queen Lizzie? "My fellow Oostralians . . "

HG

…and why do Americans pronounce it 'Osssssies and not ‘Ozzies’?

No, tall is small, grande is medium, and venti is large. In their world, anyway.

“their” used improperly

there or they’re or their

They’re not interchangable!!

That’s not funny. :raspberry:

Go back to IP.

This would make a nice dictation exercise for ESL students:

“Here the generals are the people’s saviours. There they’re their oppressors.”

pick-up truck vs pickem’ up truck… :loco:

Well… it hardly seems worth being picky, since we obviously agree on the whole issue. But zhong bei is tall, I’m 100% certain. A xiao latte is normal cup of coffee sized (they always look at you like you’re mad if you order this).

When my wife was pregnant we went to Starbucks once. We ordered a coffee and something else. “The coffee’s not for you, is it?” they enquired, “Because you know you mustn’t drink coffee when you’re pregnant”!

“I know I told you they said they’d pay you on Friday, but buddy was very sorry and he ouldn’t pay you until Tuesday and I’m sorry but they can’t pay today because of the company merger (this is LG and the company merger was in January 2005).”

My reaction was less than diplomatic. We’re talking 1 million Won.

I think LG can afford to pay me. I threw a fit.

“loser”. Especially if it’s accentuated like loo-oo-ser. I hate that word.

bobepine

Well, I hope I’m not a loser. I think I’ll get it though. The money, that is.

I thought you were calling me a loser. Could be one, I guess.

How about this one:

“This is like a family” from your boss. That one makes me hurl.

Daaaaaaaaaaaady!..usually followed by Heather hit me…I cringe at that.
Well, I hope I’m not a loser. I think I’ll get it though. The money, that is.
The loser thing was not related to you, I was just trying to stay on topic. This is not the flounders after all. I hope you get your money, it’s not like you worked for it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t understand why Australian women are all called Sheila. Weird. Why can’t they have their own names?
