And there I was, scratching a veritable groove in my hapless head, trying to track or trace the nonexistent needle noodleteria (proper) noun/name Lively in a haystack of hype and hoopla headlining the lovely homonym lemma lively.

But I did discover that there’s a positive plethora of lively listings out there in the Worldwide Web.

Taipei only has the scooter version.

Ximending Exit 6 - pretty concentrated and closest you’ll get to Tokyo

The center of Mistukoshi Xinyi near 101 on weekends

As far as cool streets go, I think Zhongxiao E. Rd from from Fuxing down to Dunhua is pretty photogenic with lots of flagship stores, cool restaurants and back alleyways with more. That is the traditional shopping district of Taipei. But there’s no central point like Times Square or Shibuya.

And that’s what I’m here for, and you’re here for: to supplement (some of) the overlooked yet important parts. I’m glad you noticed.

I currently see little danger of that, with the faux Chinese CKS Memorial Hall sullenly hulking around the corner.

Shibuya is far from being the “central point” of Tokyo, which is as decentered a city as they come.

OK, maybe the imperial palace at the heart of the city could function as Tokyo’s (largely out-of-bounds) center—one that even the subway system needs to steer around to bypass!

I meant of the district not necessarily the city. Zhongxiao E. Rd is a long road with no central meeting point. There’s no place for people to gather like in Shibuya or Times Square.

Perhaps the closest thing we have to that vibe would be the area immediately outside Ximen MRT Station. It’s on the Blue Line so that should count.

How about the Warner Bros Cinema area in Xinyi? That used to be pretty packed. I think it has not been so busy in recent years, maybe Covid related?

Yeah the same places keep getting repeated. Xinyi (新光三越)and Ximending exit no. 6

This latest Street View was probably taken during a lull:

But if it’s still like it was in the 2017 Street View, I guess some people review it by buying their noodles.

People are always lined up in front of it for a “famous” cart selling scallion pancake things. I assume it’s still there. They have another room a few stores down on the left side, I find it more comfortable.

Oh, I thought that was for the noodles. I’m just specializing in being wrong today  .

It’s hard to tell from pictures! I’ve been over there many times over the years. Less so since it became such a hotspot for tourists.

I like good scallion pancakes of various types but those are messy. I frequently used to try to convince other members of my family not to wait on line for them

Just to be clear: I am in no way dissing good scallion pancakes, which are wonderful. My venom is directed to that stall and its inexplicable popularity.
