I’m not saying you can’t like it yourself, but it’s weird that you would need to ask why others might not. It’s really bad mass-produced imitation pizza. I realize western food quality in Taiwan is very hit and miss at best, but it’s not hard to find far better pizza from a mom and pop place even here. (Or Pizza Rock, as someone else mentioned earlier, if you insist on a chain.)
I guess that’s a matter of opinion. I could probably argue that PH comes slightly closer to resembling pizza than McD’s does to resembling burgers, but that’s really splitting hairs. Both suck epically.
Right, of course, that’s exactly how it works. Every single business that exists is good, or else they’d be out of business. This is especially true of Western food chains in Taiwan. They’re all great! Mmm, peas and corn and seafood on disgusting thick bready “crust” with sauce that’s sweeter than Ketchup. Gimme some of that!
The only problem I have with Pizza Hut in Taiwan is the bizarre toppings catering to local tastes; apart from that, it is what it is, like McDonalds or any other fast food. You go there because you want to eat trash.
Taste is certainly subjective to an extent, yes, but if you have to ask what is wrong with Pizza Hut and Domino’s, it’s time to consider that you just might have bad taste, or at least that pizza isn’t really your thing.
And if you admit that, I respect your honesty and your decision! Places like that exist for people who want quick convenient trash. I’m not too proud to admit I’ve been one of those people many times! Let’s not pretend it is somehow good, though, like Marco here, who I still can’t tell if he’s trolling or actually believes that.
I eat there literally once or twice a year. Every so often I get a craving to eat lukewarm bread with pig blood and mayonnaise on top.
I’ve also eaten upmarket pizza (including in Italy) and of course, it’s better. It’s more expensive and uses high-quality ingredients. I can also make a pretty good pizza. But I’m not sure if there’s such a thing as a “proper” pizza. It’s one of those things that has a lot of valid interpretations.
Yeah, that’s definitely fair. Pizza has a wide range of styles. But I also get the idea you would never ask “What’s wrong with Pizza Hut and Domino’s?” You and I know damn well what’s wrong with it but still choose to eat it a couple times a year. Nothing wrong with that. I also get “sushi” from 7-11 occasionally, but I don’t pretend it’s good.
I wouldn’t say Pizza Hut pizzas are wrong in the same sense that, say, pop-tarts or squeez-cheez are wrong. Those things are just fake food. Nobody should be ingesting them, except perhaps as a dare after 8 pints of lager. Pizza Hut builds a product down to a price, but there’s still bread and tomato and cheese in there. AFAIK it’s not loaded up with chemicals or artificial flavorings.
