Yet another mass shooting in the US

Surprised this hasn’t been posted here yet:

Not that original, but still funny.

Maybe it’s not the gun laws or the number of guns around that is the problem, but the society in general. I wonder how Switzerland compares to the US in other areas and how the differences correlate to the different numbers in mass shootings. Are the Swiss people happier, better educated, more law abiding? Is there a lesser gap between rich and poor, are Swiss people on average better off financially, are they less in debt, have better prospects for the future? Is there less violence in general, less people with drug or mental problems? Are the education and welfare systems better? Lot of things to look into and find answers.

There is a shooting range is Switzerland where you shoot over the road. There have been zero accidents. Everyone follows and enforces the rules. :joy:

Why would they have that? I mean, even if you follow the rules, you could drop your gun by accident, not?

What if someone aims to low, hits the top of the wall and the bullet loses speed, but is still fast enough to go through a car window, I wonder. Without the wall, there would be less cows…

All of these are true, but there are still way more guns in America than in Switzerland.

Estimate of civilian firearms per 100 persons

  • America - 120.5
  • Switzerland - 27.6

It’s not culture (well maybe a little bit; the gun worship culture is sick). It’s not mental illness. It’s not inequality. America just has TOO MANY GUNS. It’s that simple.

A more telling number could be the percentage of people who have one or more guns out of the total population.

There are a lot of people in the US who have dozens of guns, while in Switzerland, I assume, most people have just one.

No idea what that number would tell us, though. Perhaps “while there are more people in Switzerland with one or more guns than in the US, there a less people who do mass shootings”?

Well, the ratios are still interesting. The US has 4.37 times more guns per 100 people. Meanwhile, grabbing the first source I could find – caveats apply – it has 4.6 times more gun deaths per 100k people (US 12.09, Switzerland 2.64).

So Swiss people seem to die almost as often per gun! Which seems to support Gain’s argument that it’s about the sheer number of guns.

No, I named many factors. One is the systematic devaluation of human life.

So it’s one of the factors leading to school shootings

Super high guns per capita means it’s exceedingly easy to obtain a gun in America, no in Switzerland.

If all gun law is strict like New York or Massachusetts a lot of gun related deaths could be avoided.

Does the gun death rate include suicides? If so, do you have a chart which excludes them?

Do your own research.

Ok, so you don’t even know what it is you’re posting? Or you don’t want to tell?

I’d also prefer a chart excluding gang violence etc. cause gangs and professional criminals will get the guns no matter which laws are in place.

Mass shootings by non-criminals (at the time of shooting) should be avoided first.

Please do the research for me!

about half or more of gun deaths are suicide.

I know, and IIRC they happen disproportionately in rural areas that are poor. Which seems like it might have a large effect on that chart if it doesn’t already exclude those.

Some stats

Summary: Watch out for white males in California who have mental health problems and legally purchased a firearm.

I want one stationed in mine. Hall monitors are cheap. Not talking about armed security cop. Just someone to deter/ prevent some kids loaded with drugs or weapons for a fight coming in.

Care to dial back your exasperated tone? I don’t consider you an idiot. Be nice if you could do the same.
