At least on my Phone i can’t reproduce this issue. I tried it in the App and Chrome Browser.
It happens infrequently, but often enough to annoy me. 
A bit off topic, but were you one of the first gmail users that needed an invitation from a friend (beta version)? I got into gmail that way about 15 years ago. Now many people have a couple out more gmail accounts.
No, can’t remember to have been invited to Gmail. Didn’t not have such an account that long ago.
Same here. Felt like I was a member of some special club…and then everybody had one.
