Sounds better than the working conditions for Indonesian maids here in Taiwan.![]()
I guess the Chinese people do know how to best utilize its “slaves”… :?

You’re still not being very logical, EOD. You are saying that there are in fact many more Aborigines in Taiwan than official statistics show, because all ‘half Aboriginal’ children of an Aboriginal mother and a Chinese father are classed as Chinese. However, all ‘half Chinese’ children of a Chinese mother and an Aboriginal father will be classed as Aboriginal, so it all evens out.
Brian
Taiwan is not a logical place.
Chinese men of pure Chinese blood don’t marry Taiwanese women, if they do, their families will alienate them. Thus, only mixed blood Taiwanese, marry down, with Taiwanese women. I have only known one pure Chinese woman, who married a Taiwanese man. Her father and mother beat her so badly that she spent a week in hospital and was never allowed to enter the family home again. That punishment was given to her just for trying to bring him home to meet the family. She married him out of spite.
I will try to find you some good info on the minority situation in Taiwan, but there is very little in English and most of the Chinese stuff has been written by the Chinese government in Taipei.
I have 2 girls born abroad to a Danish father and a Taiwanese mother. According to the MOI they are ROC citizens and have been so since birth. (But we are still struggling to get them into my wife’s household registration) No-one has required me to give up legal guardianship of them yet and I doubt that it will happen. I know of 2 girls born to a Danish father and a Taiwanese mother in Taiwan. They have ROC passports (and Danish ones to boot).
OK, now I’m, 100% certain you’re an idiot. Why don’t you post these nuggets of crap on tealit, where I’m sure they’ll be better appreciated by your peers.
EOD, while there is some animosity between different etnic groups here, this need not imply that a majority of fathers will beat up their kids if they dare to introduce prospective partners from the “wrong” etnic group to their parents. I would be surprised if the probably true example you are highlighting is representative for more than a small minority of Taiwanese/mainlanders etc.
The violent father in question may have beat her badly up for bringing a Taiwanese home - I wonder what would have happened if she had had chosen to bring a big nose barbarian home to the parents. Her father would have killed her for that, I imagine.
I thought we were talking about Aborigines. Either way, that’s just bullocks. Maybe that was the case 20 years ago, but in general it’s simply not true now.
Anyway, get back to the point. You’re saying those figures could still be right because the government grossly underestimates the number of Aborigines in Taiwan, by counting the children of a Chinese man and an Aboriginal woman as Chinese. I’m saying that even if this was the case it would even out because mixed children of an Aboriginal father would be counted as Aboriginal, even if they were only 1/2 or less aboriginal. I get the feeling you might be trying to say that htis doesn;t happen because Aborigine men don’t marry Chinese women. If your argument is true, and there’s 2, 3 or 4 times the numebr of Aborigines as the government says, because of all the Aborigine women marrying Chinese men, then there must be enormous amount of Aborigine men who can’t find brides. Just face it. You’re clutching at straws. Not only is the figure of 100000 child prostitutes in Taiwan wrong, it’s very wrong, and obviously very wrong.
Brian
In Taipei, your version of the situation may be correct. Unfortunatly the vast majority of the population does not live in Taipei. The live in the rest of this underdeveloped and corrupt country that the Chinese in Taipei would just like to ignore.
Not only are there a large number of aboriginal men who can’t find brides, there are an even larger number of Chinese men who can’t find brides acceptable to their families. Many purchase them in China. Many of the aboriginalk girls go to the city when they are old enough to understand how bleak their future really is and end up in the brothels of Taipei or any other mojor Metropolis.
One really needs to get out of Taipei to understand how this almost country functions or dysfunctions whichever the case may be.
No, according to the statistics you linked your earlier post, ALL Aborigine girls do this. ![]()
I have heard that sad song too many times - it’s mainly sung by Taiwanese for foreigners every time we question some of their dubious statistics (When throwing stats proving that the Taiwanese structural unemployment problem as a matter of fact was much smaller than the government claims, an official from the Central Bank did not refudiate me, but instead told me that I should get out of Taipei - my reply was that I lived in a small traditional industrial town, so I knew the situation there rather well). I live in a small traditional town in the northern part of Taiwan. I doubt that most of your prejudices hold water there.
Many Taiwanese men marry Chinese/SEA females. However, that’s in general the ones who can’t get a local one, so they are likely to be blue collar workers or farmers. Moreover, you see amny more ads for Chinese/SEA brides in small towns than you do in Taipei(don’t recall seeing any in the big city, BTW).
Your culture chock appears bad.
Here is a possible solution,
Why not get a hidden camera and go into these brothels and make a record of the places with child prostitutes? Many of these girls are being held against their will. If there was photographic evidence, wouldn’t the law enforcement authorities be obliged to act?

So go on then. What’s stopping you?![]()
What’s stopping me is not culture shock, but a half of a lifetime dealing with the Chinese. In the face of overwhelming evidence they just pretend like it doesn’t exist. You say “Look at this video footage of these kidnapped children be forced to perform sex for money.” and they say “I don’t see anything.”!
Not to mention that the the criminal justice system in Taiwan has conveniently decided not to use irrefutable, photographic evidence. Particularly when it puts a dent in their wallets.
How is smuggling a camera into a brothel going to proove that there’s 100000 child prostitutes in Taiwan, EOD? Are you still claiming that? If not, you should change the title of your post.

I knew an American woman (from the Taipei Hostel) who tried photographing the child brothels down off Hwa-Hsi Jye back in 1986. The girls tried to pull her hair out and her camera got smashed. Sometime between 1991-1993, the magazine Outdoor Photographer rated Hwa-Hsi Jye as one of the 10 most dangerous places in the world to photograph.
You have many facinating stories, blueface6666… crazy Taiwan…
Well, Taiwan has changed a lot since then. Huaxi Jie is a regular tourist trap now. Apart from the odd very low-profile KTC joint, the sex industry seems to have dissapeared from the area. (You can still get porn VCDs
)
Damn! Everythings going to the dawgs!
Uhhhh…are the VCD Chinese or Japanese? ![]()
I stand by those numbers as does ECPAT Taiwan. You can of course beleive what you want. I will take a proffessional opinion over any other.
