True, social media has led to less participation in public life in general. Also 250 isn’t that special of a number compared to 200. But geez, even factoring all that in, you’d expect the crowds to be better for this 4th. Anecdotally I don’t see a whole of excitement out there - no noticeable surge in flags or public displays of patriotism. People in America seem to be treating it as just another year.

No, not feeling any special excitement over here. It’s been about the hottest place in the country last few days, not helping. A thunderstorm came through and knocked out the power a couple of hours.
That’s not true for national celebrations usually, they can still be massive all over the world, and in fact the population is much bigger now than 50 years ago, it’s because of the approach of this administration it ends up like this.
I can’t really imagine any massive celebration over here either way at the moment. It’ll be a good day tomorrow though.

Surprising to you though it may be, I am well plugged in to feelings of people back home via my largely conservative (but vehemently anti-Trump, because they have brain cells) family and my friends all over the political gamut back home in the US. They are unilaterally disgusted and ashamed of having such a collection of criminal imbeciles representing them as a whole. You know, polling pretty accurately reflects this reality.
Most probably twitter echo chambers and fox news don’t reveal this inconvenient fact. How jarring it must be to come here and be exposed to the real world. Like nails on a chalkboard, I reckon.
I hope it might a more self reflective, or reflexive, fourth than normal.

Yeah it’ll be huge where I’m at. Started last night with more fireworks, in and around my neighborhood, than I’ve ever seen. Or heard. 
Parade later this morning, then a kind of American night market (in the afternoon), a brass concert, cookouts all day long, and with a big fireworks show to top it off.
Nobody in my area is bemoaning the end of the American experiment or the USA, which was a big reason I purchased property here. Everybody’s pretty happy.

Trump’s approval rating has been in the trash and it isn’t getting better. I strongly doubt no one isn’t pessimistic about oh…at least Trump letting Israel get us into a war, data center dystopia, ICE overreach (read: unprosecuted criminal behavior), spiraling living costs, or Trump swindling the American public - mostly his own supporters (!) - out of over a billion dollars for his crypto pump and dump scams.

I think the logic is, if he buys more property in his “utopian” echo chamber, that takes off the board another property a brown person might get. Couple that with ICE’s massive uptick on arrests recently, and he is sitting pretty!
