Sorry folks, I am just too excited: I AM FINALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER GOLD WITH BR (in general with any airline)!!! Not even planned, it just happened that with the right combination of flights (and an incredibly lucky cheap(er) biz return flight to Europe with TK) I managed to get over the 50K status miles in 12 months required to qualify.
End of the Spam. Just ecstatic as an avgeek.
Now need to get 80K status miles within a 24 months period to keep the status. Should be doable.

What benefits do you get with gold with Eva and star alliance?
I believe diamond is the next level for EVA? I remember dad had it. I had the one below gold when I was younger flying back and forth from the US to Taiwan.
with SA you get:
- priority check-in
- priority baggage handling
- priority boarding
- access to any SA lounge as long as you fly on a SA carrier
- additional baggage allowance
- free seat selection (for some carriers means free extra legroom seats)
- fast track (gold track) where available
correct, but 120K status miles within 12 months is really a lot… not many more perks than gold, most notably personalised luggage tags (wow) and access to the garden lounge in Taipei when flying SA carriers… no extra alliance wide perks, Gold is the top already.
Silver, which for BR is not that bad, already useful perks like access to the club at TPE when flying BR, premium economy check in, group 3 boarding, waiver of some rebooking fee.

Nice. I just got silver recently but they still haven’t sent me the physical card for some reason. Plan to get gold next year.
The real benefit of this (for me) is good lounge access for self and guest. With it I’d be able to access the maple leaf lounge in YYZ instead of plaza premium, for example.

that together with priority baggage handling and the extra legroom seat for free (at least on BR flights) are the most important.
Right, last time I was business so got the priority tag anyway.
Btw did you know they’re crippling credit card access to the garden starting March? Business class redeemed with points or upgraded with points will no longer be enough, in combination with the amex plat or cathay supreme infinite card, to get into the lounge.

Uhm, need to read better later. TBH only good things of that lounge are: very quiet and full service bar. The food is just slight better than the star/infinity. Also, it only has 1 shower and 1 toilet!!! More convenient to enter the other 2, they are all mediocre at best anyways

Yeah the main perk is the exclusivity. Seems like all the other lounges are full and chaotic.

I seem to remember diamond has its own check in lounge in Taoyuan? But I don’t think it goes directly into the gates with its own security check in if I remember correctly.
To me this is the biggest perk for me in FF programs. The ability to get into the gates and lounges within minutes of arrival really takes the stress off travel. Especially during peak periods.

It seems to be applying only to the cathay eva air supreme infinite card, I do still see the benefit of access with Amex (no mention of paid fare vs reward tickets discrimination, however they might change this in March, we’ll see)
