Alien Citizen Digital Certificate

Another thread that I’d forgotten to update, so here it is.

After complaining that I couldn’t use the mobile NFC feature to login to MyData last summer 2024, they somewhat ignored my questions and complaint and just sent me a card reader for free from their project budget.

I’d left this all for a while and tried to login to MyData again today.

  • I believe I’ve forgotten my Taiwan bank card PINs so I can’t use the bank card option and it seems like it doesn’t install the TWCA drivers/software correctly
  • For NHI, I needed to update the drivers which was a bit difficult and included restarting the browser/OS. Now it recognises the card reader but I just realised that I’ve suspended my NHI so I won’t be able to use this option for identification.
  • I cannot use my securities licence file and password either which I updated a few months ago after talking to my securities broker and the KGI helpdesk to sort it out as I insisted that I would need them to file taxes this year.

The only option that works so far for me is my ACDC card so I can get past the primary verification stage.

I do wonder how I’m going to be able to file my taxes next month since I’m overseas.

You should still be able to use it for ID verification.

You can use this Alien Citizen Digital Certificate to do your taxes

Hi everyone,

I recently received my Alien Citizen Digital Certificate and would like to use it for some practical things, mainly checking my medical records and tax records online.

Could anyone please share:

  1. The official links for accessing these services.
  2. The procedure you followed.
  3. Any tips, issues, or common mistakes to avoid.

Thanks!

I never found there to be any benefit to using it over the NHI card. I’ve made some silly financial decisions in Taiwan, but wasting NT$300 or whatever on this useless POS is probably up there, especially when the government rendered it useless a couple of years later when they forced me to update my ID number. I should have bought a beer instead. :man_shrugging:

I’m curious how many foreigners living here ever bothered to get one. I’d be surprised if it’s more than a handful.

I’m thinking if getting one, don’t think I’ll ever meet the 6 months of continued residence and only one trip outside of Taiwan to get a NHI card.

Yeah, I think that’s probably the only use case I can think of. It’s why I got one too, while I was waiting for NHI.

I got one. Free entry/exit statements and being able to check your credit score online is pretty useful. As far as I know, you can’t do that with your NHI card.

Not sure about the second one, but you can get free entry/exit statements online from MyData, using your NHI card for example.

I think you also need a secondary form of ID. I was able to use an ATM card some time ago - but the ACDC would also be a possibility if one doesn’t have both.

Otherwise, checking one’s credit score seems to be the only thing that actually requires one. And usually, there won’t be any need for that (except for curiosity maybe).

You probably do, but you can use bank cards for that. Maybe your phone number too (not sure). So I think it’d be rare than the ACDC would be more convenient…

Is a card reader still required to activate the ACDC?

If yes, which card reader should I buy? Prefer one with modern drivers that are build for Windows 11.

Doesn’t really matter. Most of the time, you won’t even need to install any drivers manually.

And no matter what card reader you buy, you always need to install the same Taiwan government software to access the data…

Probably most of us assumed, as you did, that this POS system is typical SOP. Look ma’, me edumacation made an objective point with a palindrome. Glass half full…

I applied for my ACDC yesterday. You only need to take your ARC to the immigration office with 1 photocopy of it. No need to take your passport.

Also unsure if this is new, but they now email you a notification saying “We have received your application, please sign in here and pay within 10 days”. For me, I applied in the morning and received the email at 20:00 the same day.

I have my ACDC and I’m able to check my labor and pension contributions. Note, The site and dashboard are now different to what was posted earlier in this thread:

https://edesk.bli.gov.tw/me/#/na/overview

I can see my employer pension info. However, rather worryingly, the dashboard doesn’t show any other info. Here’s what I see:

Can someone else please test this site and confirm they’re able to see their labor insurance and national pension insurance information?

Also, how do I view and print a full history of employer pension contributions? Thanks in advance.

Sue sue sue soon?

But why not let the lawyer do it???

I don’t know if anything is wrong and worth suing over until I see my full pension history.

I was expecting my total pension pot to be a bit higher, but my rough calculations might be wrong.

Did you ever discover how to fix this?

Seems I’m having the same issue.

If I remember correctly you need to go to their office and do something, it’s on this site somewhere. I never got around to it, keep intending to though!

Just go to the nearest branch of the Labor Insurance Bureau and they will sort you out with complete printouts covering your entire history with labor insurance and the New Pension Scheme.

There’s a list of the branches here:

Pro tip: At least in Taipei, they are very, very busy. Go at 8:30 am and find the special line for quick printouts if that is all you need. Do not get stuck in the lines where people are applying for benefits.
