Taiwan’s pro-ball usually starts after MLB’s season opener. There’s also the WBC this year, so I think sometime early to mid April.
Official 35+1 roster, in bold if they were in my 30 player list.

I think the list relied way too much on past achievements and not on the players’ recent performance. As a result, there are too many relief pitchers on the roster. My list has a SP to RP ratio of 8:5 . In contrast the official list has a ratio of 9:8… Be prepared to see the Team Taiwan tradition of forcing pitchers who hasn’t pitched as a starter for years to pitch critical games, and blowing it.
Chen Tzu-Hao is still recovering from his injury so he couldn’t play. Cheng Chin, Fan Kuo-Chen were on my back-up list. There are also plenty of players who were on the IL most of 2022 that are on the list. I also think we can expect that Yu Chang won’t play, since we have a “35+1” men roster, instead of just a 35 men roster.
I wonder how many of my 15 out of 30 will make their way into the final 30 men roster. Either way, I didn’t predict the list very well, since at best I only guessed 50% of the final list.
I would use this order:
- LIN Li DH
- TAHAI Isliduan 2B
- WU Nienting 1B
- CHANG Yu SS
- KUNGKUAN Gil C
- WANG Bojung RF
- WANG Weichen 3B
- CHEN Chenwei CF
- KUO Tienxin LF
From the latest interview, it seems like even though Lin Yi-min, who was playing for the Visalia Rawhide, a single A club affiliated with the Diamondbacks, in 2022, wasn’t included in the 36 men roster, he might still be selected in the 30 men roster. Lin Yi-min is a left handed starting pitcher with a top velocity of 94mph (151kph), and a nasty curve ball. He’s also only 19.
If that’s the case, it means they would need to cut 3 from the 17 pitchers in the 36 men roster.
Weird mascot name.
When I was looking at tickets the other day, I saw an article saying Mariano Rivera is throwing out the first pitch in the Panama/Taiwan game. You guys know if that’s true?
I mean, when you can join the team if you have certain ancestry, that’s what happens…
Zhang Yi getting injured is very unfortunate. Though he wasn’t in my original list either.
Hope Cho’s move doesn’t create a ripple effect and everyone else starts quitting too.
There’s a jam in the infield.
吳念庭
林子偉
張育成
王威晨
林立
One dude isn’t going to start or has to DH.
I don’t think they’ll bench the team captain so it has to be 林立。
Official 30-men roster is out

Dai Pei-Feng (戴培峰), Yueh Tung-Hua (岳東華), and Lin An-Ko (林安可) were cut.
By the way, with the 30-men roster, my prediction has a measly 50% accuracy.
My misses:
Lin Hung-yu, Hsu Chi-hung, Chen Tzu-hao were injured so not really my fault. Cheng Chin was in my backup list, since so many got hurt, I think he should count as me getting it right.
They didn’t pick Ngayaw Ake’ cause… he’s old and could only DH? I don’t know, he totally should have been on the team. They didn’t pick Kou Yen-wen, who had an OPS of .746 and OPS+ of 122 because… I guess he is also older than Wang Wei-chen, otherwise they are comparable. They absolutely gave up on having dedicated 3B, otherwise they should have picked Liang Chia-Jung, who had an OPS of .744 and an OPS+ of 123. They didn’t pick Haro Ngayaw, I guess also because of his age?
As for the pitchers, Cudjui Taljimahaw claimed shoulder injury and dropped out. I’m not sure why they cut Wu Che-Yuan. They also didn’t like players from Wei Chuan Dragons I guess, except for Wang Wei-Chung who had MLB experience but has been struggling for at least the last 2 years.
Lin Li had an OPS of .907 and OPS+ of 169 last season, I mean if you don’t want to make runs, then you could bench him. I think based on last year’s stats I would bench Wu Nian-ting. If you absolutely don’t want to bench NPB players regardless of how his performed last year, I would bench Wang Wei-chen. They could sub for Wu or Wang late in the game with a small lead to boost infield defense.
Let the captain DH or sit then. He said he wants to avoid injury because he still has to play the season.
This has to be our strongest team relative to our total pool.
As of yet, the Giants organization hasn’t agreed to let Teng Kai-Wei play in the WBC yet, and as a result he is still in the US for his spring training. We don’t know when he can make his trip back to Taiwan. I mean, if he can’t come back that’d be a problem for his military service.
If Teng can’t come back, I’d imagine Wu Che-Yuan will probably take his place.
Full rosters released for all the teams. Cespedes is on the Cuban roster. This’ll be fun.
