Best James Bond Movie Ever

Moonraker

Diamonds are forever. I like Moonraker, but D.A.F is much more silly.

Man with the Golden Gun.

I’m torn between Casino Royale (the 2006 version) and The Spy Who Loved Me for completely different reasons. Toughy SAS/Bourne guy versus Roger at his eyebrow raising khaki slack wearing best. I’m going to go with Roger because his films were funny. “Tell Bond to pull out immediately!”

Live and Let Die. Best bond theme, plus Jane Seymour, plus Roger at his leisure-wear safari suit best.

‘don’t worry darling, it’s just a hat belonging to a man of limited means who lost a fight with a chicken’

I think one has to look at it with the view that there were several Bonds, and pick the best Bond movie with each actor. For Sean, its harder as he started with this gendre, so one may say all of his , up and to and including Diamonds are Forever were equally good , and really there is no other Genuine Bond other then Sean.

The best Bond movie by Roger , to me was The Spy Who Loved Me. Although the others were not bad either. I also liked Octopussy.

George Lazenby was alright in ON Her Majesty’s Secret Service. But it was hard for him as he was the first Non Sean Bond and that is a tough pair of shoes to fill.

Pierce was the best in GoldenEye and then it just sort of went a bit downhill after that one.

Dalton was alright, both films were pretty good, I think his first one was better then the second though.

Casino Royale was good. Quantum of Solace had potential but I didnt like the ending with the girl being killed.

Looking forward to Skyfall.

The recent Casino Royale movie was excellent. I think Moore is definitely the best Bond ever though. For a long time, I hated him. Then I saw an interview with him and realised the entire thing was tongue in cheek. I think I will have to go with The Man with the Golden Gun also, though I could have gone with any of his first three. The villains…the ridiculous plot lines…the gadgets…the women…the cheesy lines. They had everything. Didn’t like Dalton and really didn’t like Brosnan.

Almost. “Why it’s just a hat, darling, belonging to a small-headed man of limited means who lost a fight with a chicken.” I saw LALD recently, sorry if I come across and being a dick.

I like silly Bond best, but I do like Craig’s kicky pouty Bond as well.

I never read the books, but apparently Daniel Craig’s James Bond is closest to Iam Fleming’s character. James Bond is a killer, after all. Dark and brooding is to be expected. Roger Moore’s James Bond was just a caricature, and those movies were pretty stupid.

Best Bond is definitely Connery, he defined the franchise and set the standard after all.

Casino Royale (2006) was excellent, but only as an action film and NOT as a Bond film. As a 007 movie Casino Royale was disappointing and a large part of it was because of Daniel Craig’s version of Bond. Look, if we want gritty and realistic we have the Bourne films (where all 3 films do a better job of that anyway). Fans love Bond movies because they adore that unique vibe that’s so special and other movies just can’t offer. Just because DC decides to go dark and gritty with Batman doesn’t mean MGM should plagiarize their freaking playbook. 007 was its own amazing property and it should’ve stayed that way (sigh).

GoldenEye is probably my favorite film from the franchise. Pierce Brosnan gets the silver medal for portraying Bond. It’s a close one but Timothy Dalton slightly edges out Roger Moore and earns Bronze. Daniel Craig is a decent actor, but as James Bond? Whatever. Change the name of the character and CR and QOS will become much more bearable (and even enjoyable) movies because it doesn’t disfigure the 007 brand and name. Looking forward to the day Craig’s contract expires, he’ll make much better movies playing more fitting role’s he’s actually great at.

Sean Connery IS Bond.

Anyways, I think Casino Royale was not bad at all. Daniel Craig delivers, but he has BIG shoes to fill…

No worries, spent years at Uni living with a film-fan pedant who would constantly correct my misquotes!

Also, the OP asked which is the best Bond FILM ever, not who was best bond. That is an entirely different question.

Just watched The World is Not Enough. Incredible action scenes, but John Cleese and Goldy are clear weak links. Sophie Marceau is absolutely, jaw-droppingly, gorgeously stunning. I’d place it as the best just because of her. So, I’ve changed my mind.

Shouldn’t we really be asking who is the best bond girl ever? At the moment I’m rather partial to the cellist from The Living Daylights.

Maybe it’s a generational thing, but I’ve never been much of a fan of Sean Connery as Bond. In my opinion Daniel Craig blows all the other Bonds out of the water. Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale, Skyfall, take your pick, you can’t go wrong.

Craig did a good job. He really made the role his own, rather than trying to fill someone else’s shoes. OTOH that last movie absolutely sucked; I think the producers thought, hey, we’ve got a great actor here - we can turn out any old trash we want and it’ll still put bums on seats. So that’s what they did.

And yeah … Sophie Marceau. :howyoudoin:

Always had the hots for Sophie.

Sophie is not bad, but I think she’s overrated.

I like Izabella Scorupco (GoldenEye), Karin Dor (You Only LIve Twice), Eva Green (Casino Royale) and of course, Britt Ekland (The Man with the Golden Gun) and Barbara Bach (The Spy Who Loved Me). Maryam d’Abo (The Living Daylights) is not bad either. Berenice Marlohe (Skyfall) looks quite good too. Probably my favourite has always been Daniela Bianci (From Russia with Love), in an old school way. There’s something really elegant about her.

They’ve had a few shockers though, and is it just me, or with the exception of Halle Berry, has every black Bond woman been absolutely fugly (including the upcoming Naomie Harris)? I mean really, Grace Jones (A View to a Kill) and Gloria Hendry (Live and Let Die) were just outright dog ugly. What happened there?

To be fair to Craig QofS was reportedly really rushed. He and the director were coming up with the script as they were shooting scenes. The editing was dreadful in that movie, and there were some massive holes in the plot. Even so, it’s still a watchable movie.

Also, just before anyone tries to pull a fast one, it’s an urban myth that the Bond girl in For Your Eyes Only was a post-op transexual. It was one of the extras. Rog probably did her anyway.

Don’t forget Ursula Undress !

I guess there’s always an element of eye of the beholder, but I struggle to link the word overrated with Marceau - at least in terms of smoking hot sexiness.

Agree with you about the black Bond girls, although Halle Berry walking out the ocean makes up for all the others. “Ornithologist? That’s quite a mouthful”. All that was missing was a Roger Moore raised eyebrow.
