Well, I think it’s advisable to pick your battles. Clubs, wherever you go in the world, are a bit of a law unto themselves. They’re often run by underworld types and they really don’t care what you or anybody else thinks about bigotry etc; they’re concerned only about making money. So if you hit them in the pocketbook by generating as much bad publicity as you can, it’ll hurt.
If you make a fuss at the club, all that’s likely to happen is that the bouncers will have a bit of fun with you, and your subsequent stint in hospital will achieve nothing much - not least because the general public will assume you did something to deserve your beating (bouncers don’t beat people up for nothing, right?). Sometimes being a keyboard warrior is the more effective option.
In any case I’m guessing this instance wasn’t bigotry as such. Just a bit of common-or-garden stupidity.
I’m not saying rudely shove a phone into a bouncer’s face.
But anything they do to me on film is then liable in a court of law.
I want a manager and to get an explanation and have proof.
Put me in a hospital? Fine! I’ll send the video to western media.
Bigotry is my battle. Taiwan has its own ID cards and those should be recognised first. I shouldn’t have to risk losing a passport in a place i intend to get drunk in. This obsession with using foreign country’s IDs is an attack to anyone who believes in Taiwan’s sovereignty.
I tried that for about 2 seconds after they removed me but my Taiwanese ‘friends’ weren’t very supportive at the time.
“It’s because you are foreigner they have to be careful.”
Uhhh, right but how is it okay to just physically remove me after 5 seconds.
I actually don’t talk much with those “friends” anymore. I would have put up more of a fight but after witnessing the infamous “banana peel throw" of 2018 all over the news , no thanks. I can easily see me losing my job and getting some sort of BS lawsuit.
“Foreigner involved in fight at nightclub. Forces bouncers to carry him out.”
If it was a cafe or a bookstore I would be more keen.
You bring up a good point but this deserves a whole other thread then. I’m with Marco on this one. I would start filming right away and call my well-connected friends. I don’t know this club but makes me want to leave a review myself.
If you read their google reviews AI is notorious for being obnoxious and physical with everyone. Tons of 1 star reviews. It’s a shame Taipei doesn’t have more nightclub options. Lately the only 3 I hear about are Omni, AI, and Wave. Oh, and Triangle if that counts. (its a bit small imo )
there’s a few options depending on the vibe/music you’re looking for
if it’s mainstream edm and cheap booze I suggest ai/wave all in the same area att4fun
omni is also on the same concept but a bit fancier and with a higher entrance fee 1k last time I went
chess for more hip hop music
now if techno / trance is your thing I suggest pipe although it’s a bit far away in gongguan it’s less crowded and the atmosphere is more chill and there’s a great pizza stand outside the club highly recommend it
Back in the day, I got into clubs with photos of my passport, photocopies of my ARC, and even my NHI card. I only ever went to Chess, Wave and Klash though.
