Coronavirus Open Thread 2022

And the best Vaccine that “Dear Leader” can hope for is Sinovac - if the PRC are brave enough to let him have a shot.

Well, it’s a long shot, but it might potentially solve a few problems. Although TBH it would be better if they could arrange a supply of Pfizer. No harm in stacking the deck a little.

I guess he could travel with that one if he one day wants to visit Disneyland in Japan. Not sure how much it will help to protect him though.

I suppose Russia is not in a very helpful mood now to share some of its supply of Sputnik (this has been the case for a long while; so many lost chances for soft power wins there, as they seemed to have shrugged their shoulders and vacated that spot to China).

Sputnik is/was the most used vaccine (at 40% roughly) in Mexico City (capital).
Take a look at how Mexico handled COVID.
Mexico NEVER shut its border throughout all of COVID.
New arrivals into Mexico are not required to show proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test, or to quarantine.

Hats off to Mexico.

Since the Russians apparently never filed the required paper work, that vaccine is not on the WHO list, and will not work for travel to many sites around the world.

It’s hard to see this as a clear win for the residents of Mexico City.

Taiwan, who for a few days had been at the top of the New Cases list, have finally been toppled - by the DPRK - who have reported 262,280 new cases today, taking their total cases to 1,978,230 . How long ago were they saying the number was Zero?

Better at testing than Taiwan

Capable of testing more at least.

Isn’t it just that most countries aren’t bothering to test or report daily cases anymore? That’s the impression I got when looking at the Worldometer list earlier. Only a handful of countries have anything in that column.

Yes, I think many countries are only testing those that need to be tested, Medical Staff etc, and Employees of Companies that insist on regular tests.

And the former Peoples Republic of Western Australia (who held out for Covid Zero much longer after the other States gave up), with population of just 2.3M (just under 10% of Australia), have today recorded 15,205 new cases - Australia in total recorded 49,921 new cases).

Meanwhile, the DPRK reported another 263,380 cases today. Total death count is low at 65, but given that the “Virus only arrived a week ago”, I suspect that number will shoot skyward in the next few weeks.

Pretty cool gadget Karl has there…oh, f@#$&!!

Looking at official case numbers is pretty much meaningless. Most countries are either inaccurate or deliberately lied their arses off: Covid: World’s true pandemic death toll nearly 15 million, says WHO - BBC News

India, for example, were straight-up dividing death numbers by 10.

I recall one example where a hospital was reporting say 100 deaths, but the local government would report 100 deaths for the entire region.

Looks pretty cool.

Yep, cool way of letting you know you’ll be stuck in Paris a while longer. Oh heck.

By April 2020, I realised looking at the numbers was meaningless.
It was fear porn. For many, it is like looking at stocks and shares.
The real numbers are not what the WHO says. The numbers are what government admit in FOI requests that if they are reported in the media (which was paid off to report the government line) is hidden on page 34 at the bottom of the page.
Here is a FOI page from Ireland. 61 people died from it in 2020.

losing a child is horrific under any circumstances. Tragic. I cant and dont want to imagine it ever happening to my own children. Weve been on the fence about vaccinating our 3 and 6 year old…but these reports are convincing us that inaction may result in our worst nightmare. Damn you China! And damn whoever else was involved in creating this virus. May you all rot in hell for eternity.

Millions dead worldwide and nobody held accountable. Pathetic.

Terrible. Don’t know how people carry on after it happens.

I feel this every day, sometimes every hour. And Xi is doing his best to gaslight the world into forgetting where this came.

Its an interesting opinion… one that I don’t totally disagree with, but I think it barely touches the surface. If it did come from China, surely China was simply the sub-contractor and not the mastermind.

You’ll note that gaslighting is not a Chinese word, and I guess there is a reason for that too
