I wonder if the other 11 cases - which aren’t described - might make the authorities look less magnanimous?

Links from this article suggest that they meet once or twice a month to deliberate over compensation claims, with a similar number of claims to process on each occasion (something less than 100). They appear to throw out 80%+ of them.

According to the command center, 31,078 new local cases were added today, including 13,976 males, 17,088 females, and 14 cases under investigation. The command center pointed out that there were 45 local deaths today, including 22 males and 23 females, aged from their 20s to 90s. All had severe infections, 42 had a history of chronic diseases, 28 hadn’t received the recommended 3 or more doses of COVID-19 vaccine and 20 hadn’t received any doses at all. The date of diagnosis ranged from October 11, 2022 to January 1, 2023, and the date of death ranged from December 13 last year to January 2, this year, as detailed in the attachment of the press release.

The command center explained that among the 436 new cases of overseas immigration today, 255 were males and 181 were females, ranging in age from less than 5 years old to more than 80 years old. The date of entry is between December 4 last year and January 4 this year.

According to the statistics of the command center, as of now, there have been a total of 20,935,453 notifications related to new coronavirus pneumonia in Taiwan (including 11,953,901 cases excluded), of which 8,979,699 cases were confirmed, including 41,642 imported cases, 8,938,003 local cases, 36 from the Dunmu fleet, 3 cases of aircraft infection, 1 case is unknown and 14 cases are under investigation. The command center once again appealed that the public should complete vaccination as soon as possible, implement personal protective measures such as hand hygiene and cough etiquette, reduce unnecessary movement, activities or gatherings, and avoid entering and leaving crowded places or places with high risk of infection transmission. I really wish people would just accept that COVID is here to stay, get themselves out in the sunshine, get as healthy as possible (in general terms), stop worrying, and stop taking those blasted “boosters” that just make everything worse for everybody. The gubmint isn’t coming to save us, and the sooner we stop this horrific serial-passage experiment, the sooner we can say goodbye to aggressive new variants and “mitigation measures”.

I totally agree with the exception of “aggressive new variants”. They’re more contagious (which makes trying to ‘keep them out’ even more ridiculous), but that’s it.

Evolutionary biology is still a young science and there’s a lot we still don’t know, but the studies that have been done so far indicate that variants arising in heavily-vaccinated populations (and China is one of those) show a more limited range of genotypes which - presumably - are well-adapted to vaccine evasion. Couple that with the apparent immune-suppressing effect of repeatedly boosting people, and you’ve got a recipe for yet another disaster.

Fortunately the vast majority of people worldwide have had enough boosting, so we might (hopefully) be looking at a more natural evolutionary path for the virus.

I understand. However, I will bet my foreskin no deadlier variants come out of China. Even if they might do, no travel restriction attempts to contain them will work.
