Summary
The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (1) that there were 25,386 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 25,270 local cases and 116 imported cases; 20 new deaths among the confirmed cases (one of which was imported) case).
According to the command center, 25,270 new local cases were added today, including 11,406 males, 13,840 females, and 24 cases under investigation. The age ranged from under 5 years old to over 90 years old. The cases were distributed in New Taipei City (5,334 cases), Taichung City (3,419 cases), Taipei City (2,860 cases), Taoyuan City (2,728 cases), Kaohsiung City (2,398 cases), Tainan City (2,053 cases), Changhua County (1,145 cases), Hsinchu County (896 cases), Hsinchu County City (765 cases), Miaoli County (549 cases), Pingtung County (475 cases), Yunlin County (462 cases), Keelung City (418 cases), Nantou County (373 cases), Chiayi County (330 cases), Yilan County (328 cases), Hualien County (217 cases), Chiayi City (205 cases), Kinmen County (126 cases), Taitung County (116 cases), Penghu County (69 cases), Lianjiang County (4 cases) .
The command center pointed out that there were 19 new local deaths today and one imported death, including 13 males and 7 females, aged from their 40s to 90s. All had severe infections, 18 had a history of chronic diseases, 9 hadn’t received the recommended 3 or more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and 8 hadn’t received any doses at all. The date of diagnosis was from November 23 to December 29 last year (2022), and the date of death was from December 23 to December 29, as detailed in the attachment of the press release.
The command center explained that among the 116 new imported cases today, 56 were males and 60 were females, ranging in age from less than 5 years old to more than 80 years old, from Japan (2 cases), Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore (each 1 case), with another 111 cases under national investigation. The entry date is between December 1st and December 30th last year.
According to the statistics of the command center, as of now, there have been 20,806,311 notifications related to the new type of coronavirus pneumonia in Taiwan (including 11,932,635 cases excluded), of which 8,872,746 cases have been confirmed, including 40,307 imported cases, 8,832,385 local cases, 36 cases of dunmu fleet, 3 cases of aircraft infection, 1 case is unknown and 14 cases are under investigation. Since 2020, there have been a total of 15,273 COVID-19 deaths, including 15,255 local cases. The counties and cities where the cases lived were distributed as follows: 2,972 cases in New Taipei City, 1,656 cases in Taipei City, 1,631 cases in Taichung City, 1,509 cases in Kaohsiung City, 1,138 cases in Tainan City, and 1,138 cases in Taoyuan City. 1,126 cases, 968 cases in Changhua County, 592 cases in Pingtung County, 500 cases in Yunlin County, 495 cases in Nantou County, 421 cases in Miaoli County, 395 cases in Chiayi County, 323 cases in Yilan County, 315 cases in Keelung City, 264 cases in Hualien County, 262 cases in Chiayi City, 254 cases in Hsinchu County, 195 cases in Taitung County, 165 cases in Hsinchu City, 37 cases in Kinmen County, 37 cases in Penghu County; the other 18 cases were imported from abroad.
The command center once again appealed that the public should complete vaccination as soon as possible, implement personal protective measures such as hand hygiene and cough etiquette, reduce unnecessary movement, activities or gatherings, and avoid entering and leaving crowded places or places with high risk of infection transmission. Actively cooperate with various epidemic prevention measures, and remind people with sensitive constitutions, chronic diseases, fever, or respiratory symptoms that it is still recommended to wear masks in densely populated areas to jointly maintain the health of domestic communities.
