Sources told CNA that the group will be exempted from the current “3+4” quarantine rules that require arrivals to spend three days in quarantine followed by four days of self-monitoring during which they have to avoid social gatherings.

Happy they are opening up but this is a kick in the balls for people who have struggled to even get family members in for a visit.

Don’t get your hopes up that the government will soon let individual travelers in. That’s still far away IMHO. Also that whole group tour thing has been a failure in Japan. I think only 252 people entered in June? In 2019, before the pandemic, there were 30 million plus visitors to the country.

48 new confirmed cases of Omicron subtype variant BA.4 and BA.5, 2 local cases and 46 imported cases, respectively

The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (25) that 48 new confirmed cases of Omicron subtype variants BA.4 and BA.5 were confirmed in Taiwan, including 2 local cases and 46 imported cases. Up to now, a total of 416 confirmed cases of imported Omicron subtype variants have been detected in Taiwan, including 62 cases of BA.4 and 354 cases of BA.5; and a total of 9 confirmed local cases, all of which are BA.5 subtypes.

The command center stated that there were 2 new local cases of Omicron subtype variant BA.5 today, which were males in their 60s and 50s (hereinafter referred to as case A and case B). Case A is a family cluster infection. On July 5, 2022, he sent 2 family members who entered Germany to the airport to return home for quarantine. One of the family members tested positive at the airport (an Omicron BA.5 imported case announced on July 18), and the PCR test of the contacts of case A was negative.
