Coronavirus Vaccine in Taiwan - April 2021

I hope you’re both going to come out of the closet to your family members, after the side effect period has passed?

You should play on this, by going for spa treatments and facials and bounding into work each day.

It’ll be a while, I fear. Some people … just kind of go down [TCM] snake oil rabbit holes (what an intriguingly mixed metaphor). And you hope they come out one day.

I hope recent announcements of local cases will open some eyes and they’ll finally decide to get the vaccine before… (lets not even mention)

Because taxi drivers do something useful?

All joking aside, taxi drivers will actually come into contact with people who are actually prime vectors of transmission, unlike teachers…especially primary school teachers.

Is it too late for me to sign up for the vaccine?

I’ve asked several Taiwanese about the vaccine, and they seem to be avoiding the vaccines as: (1) they don’t think they’re at risk; (2) side effects of AZ are too great; and/or (3) AZ is not nearly as effective as Pfizer, which they want.

No but spaces are limited, seems like Mackay release slots 2 weeks in advance Link

I could still sign up today in the morning for May, 13th at the Taipei Medical University Hospital.

Only thing that is stopping me is having to pay… If I didn’t have to pay, or someone is paying for me, I’d do it pronto.

I may not be at risk but that could change anytime.

The way I look at it is, these vaccines will go to waste if they’re not used so there’s no moral issue about taking it over those that are high risk. Less than 600nt is 2 or 3 beers :man_shrugging:

Right now the problem is that the self-paid vaccines are being booked up by people that want them…a majority of the vaccines will go to waste by the priority groups that don’t want them.

They just need to release a large batch of these to the general public if things keep going this way.

Yeah, personally I have no objection to paying a minimal fee but I agree that the entire stock pile should be made available for the general population as soon as possible before it expires.

For you it’s cheap.

For me, who maybe makes on average about 200nt a day, it’s a LOT of money, especially for something that ought to be free.

I read that CECC may expand the priority groups.

I appreciate that you might not earn as much money as some on this forum which I believe you have referenced in other posts, but the vaccine is free if you are prepared to wait until you qualify for the priority group (less the admin fee).

If you don’t want to wait, unfortunately you pay a premium.

That’s 75 minutes of minimum wage pay. You should work more minutes per day or, you are already, you should report your employer.

I booked an appointment at Far Eastern Hospital.

Might be a risk of blood clots or whatever but COVID has a much higher risk of that… not to mention permanent lung damage, etc.

I heard SARS did the same to survivors. If it didn’t kill you it damaged you in some way that’s permanent.

Happy days! Let us know how it turns out. I’m booked in for the 10th of May, my wife has a last minute appointment for the 8th, both at Mackay.

Only the “epidemic prevention taxi drivers,” i.e. those driving quarantine-bound passengers, are in the priority 3 group, along with flight crew, quarantine hotel staff, etc.

So, maybe most of us agree that Taiwan was 150% great at keeping COVID-19 from invading the country, but now it’s 150% fuqqing up the vaccine part for normal life resumption.
