Coronavirus Vaccine in Taiwan - April 2021

It’s free right now so waiting to pay NT$10 on expiry day would be somewhat odd.

If you go through the out-of-pocket route (I presume this to be the only route in Taiwan currently available to almost all forumosans), you need to pay a nominal fee for the vaccination (up to, but sometimes less than, NT$600).

It’s a token amount—but it’s not “free.”

Guy

I get your point, but it ain’t “free”.

Thanks! That’s what I was looking for.

You’re not paying for the vaccine, it’s free.

You are not charged for the vaccine, it’s free.

You are paying to be vaccinated. It isn’t free.

Correct.

We may have a winner for the coveted Punctilious Forumosan award!

Guy

Yeah that’s like saying jump on board we ain’t charging you for a ticket but for the air you breath.

Today when we got vaccinated my wife chatted up a nurse in Nantou Hospital.

There are heaps of senior officials shuttled in groups there from all over the place to be vaccinated. I saw a group like that, they are taking pictures when they are getting the vaccine.
Otherwise it is quite slow. Many people are concerned over media reports.

That information was enough to convince MIL to also get vaccinated!

They are writing on their official websites how dangerous it is, but are running to hospital to get it!!!

:joy:

Or my favourite, the system access fee Rogers puts on their bills.

They charge you a fee to continue paying for your phone services in Canada.

I used to tell people to think of the poor kids in Africa.

Now I tell people to think of the poor kids in Canada.

…Or Ryanair tickets…5 USD to Rome plus taxes and fees of 200 euro .

In addition to that, what I commonly hear from friends my age and their parents is: “I am waiting for the Taiwanese vaccine. It has not come out yet, which means that our scientists are taking into account what went wrong with the others to make an even better one for us”. Unconfirmed claim.

Personally, I would rather go for one of the main vaccines which have already been “live tested” on over a billion people across the world. I am waiting to apply for the NHI card next month (finally) and hopefully there will still be expiring AZ jabs to book

All roads lead to Rome, with a fee of 2000 euros.

Apparently one of the new local-transmission cases is a quarantine worker. Maybe this will make local front line workers on the priority list think twice about waiting around for their preferred brand of vaccine. The longer this country dicks around, the more time before we have heard immunity and the more likely a major outbreak could happen. Unfortunately it’s far from being too late for that to happen.

Just signed up for my shot at Far Eastern Hospital. I chose a Friday so I can chill on the weekend. I’d really like to visit home at Christmas time so it is probably good to just get the vaccine while it is available. Maybe the hubby will decide to do the shot at a different time? He’s suspicious.

Related to my post above. One question for the Forumosans who have already taken the jab.

Is the NHI card a requirement upon booking and/or on the day of the injection?
