The Taiwan FDA also provide a very helpful COVID-19 vaccine adverse event notification summary report every week for the public, where you can see the types and numbers of COVID-19 vaccine adverse events in Taiwan.
69,361 doses were given yesterday, of which 47,630 were second doses, and 4,144 were Booster shots. 15,207,875 are now fully vaccinated which is 65.01% of the Total Population. https://www.cdc.gov.tw/File/Get/ld_UlaSYZKyVSSoMd39cjQ
As people often say about COVID deaths “is that FROM COVID or WITH COVID?” then it’s only fair to also ask “is that FROM the vaccines or WITH the vaccines?”
The latest news I found on that is a few months old:
As of Tuesday, a total of 685 people had reportedly died within hours or up to a few weeks after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine in Taiwan, 550 recipients of the AstraZeneca vaccine and 129 of the Moderna brand, CECC data showed.
…
Currently, no deaths have been ruled by the panel to be directly linked to COVID-19 vaccines, according to the CECC.
Q3. Which of the adverse events of death after vaccination should be notified? Which ones do not necessarily need to be notified?
When it is suspected that the death of a case was caused by an adverse vaccine event, it can be notified.
If the initial notification was not a death case, but the subsequent case died and the death is suspected to be related to an adverse vaccine event, please change the severity of the adverse event to death during the follow-up notification.
The following information, please do not inform death:
When the case died after vaccination, but it is not suspected that the death is related to the vaccine adverse event (such as: death from a traffic accident, death from an existing disease, etc.).
The fetus has spontaneous abortion or artificial abortion due to congenital abnormalities.
63,048 doses were given yesterday, of which 41,014 were second doses, and 6,282 were Booster shots. 15,251,700 are now fully vaccinated which is 65.19% of the Total Population. https://www.cdc.gov.tw/File/Get/8AERwBYdVD7zqL0R3A0sdQ
The lower rates for older groups remain worrying. In one sense, it’s their own fault. In another, if a bunch of them start dying, we’ll be back in some form of lockdown.
Just tell the oldies to “Get vaxxed before CNY or we cancel your NHI Card” should work - perhaps accompanied by a $500 voucher. They will fall over themselves in the rush.
Off topic - a few decades back I worked in a Bank in OZ, back in the days that Pensioners were paid by cheque every two weeks. They would wait beside the letter box for the postie to visit, then high tail it to the Bank immediately after to cash the cheque (the thought was that the money might run out, hence the rush). Banks opened at 10:00 and there was usually a crowd outside, more so on Pension Day which was every second Wednesday. The man whose job it was to open the front doors would usually do so and greet those as they came in. Not on Pension Day though, he would flick the lock off and get away quick before he was steamrolled by the horde of oldies outside in their rush to get to the Tellers to cash their cheques. These oldies could actually run on Pension Day, when the rest of the time they hobbled along. The lure of cash !!!
