Costco Thread 2025

They are related, after all.

Reminds me of a super easy, ridiculously delicious recipe here in the States: Mississippi Pot Roast. Done in a few hours if you have a pressure cooker.

A few years ago all of these ingredients were available at Costco Taiwan, except the chuck cut (iirc I used flank). Approximately ten minutes of prep needed, maybe less.

One chuck roast (or as close as you can get in Taiwan).
One stick refrigerated butter.
Enough mild green peperoncino peppers to cover one side of the beef.
One envelope of Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing powder.

  • Brown the beef on all sides (brown the shit out of it, a bit of black is ok).
  • Cook it under high pressure for at least 30 minutes (depends on weight). When the pressure drops and you can open the lid:
  • Dump the envelope on the beef and even the powder out.
  • Cover the powder with the peppers.
  • Balance the stick of butter on top of everything.
  • Add water to the side of the beef until it’s almost up to the powder. You can substitute beef broth if you didn’t brown the shit out of the roast.
  • Slow cook for another 1-3 hours, or to your preference.

MUCH better than it may seem.

Will there be any black week sales?

Black Friday isn’t a thing in Taiwan, the double 11 day is though…

Urgh. :man_facepalming: :man_facepalming:

Let’s see when they open up the site: Costco

It’s maybe the one store (?) in Taiwan that famously has Black Friday sales… so obviously this is the thread where you’d go to say that ā€œBlack Friday isn’t a thingā€.

Costco’s Black Friday sale starts tomorrow, and goes through Sunday.

They also do some Cyber Monday specials the day after.

Crap. Not on sale anymore. I missed it

It’ll be a crowded hell visiting any Costco stores this week. Best to just avoid the place.

Yea, you came too late. It ended on 11/23.

Depends when you go and which branch. Xizhi parking lot had ~20 cars when I got there shortly after 8:00 this morning.

No pumpkin pie this morning. Looks like they won’t have it in time for Thanksgiving this year.

Any lines before opening for black Friday goods?

Not really. There seemed to be a few shoppers that were there early for the big ticket items, for which supply is probably somewhat limited, but no lines or mad rushes.

I got my renewal in the mail. Tried to renew online, but costco.com only takes costco cards? Is the only way to renew to go into the store?

I’m unexpectedly free this afternoon, and thought I may head to Costco. I don’t know how Black Friday stuff works there, but I checked Google Maps, and … maybe I won’t go today.

Went to the XinZhuang one last Thursday and I’ve never encountered such human/vehicle traffic before since that store opened. Cars lined up for at least a km waiting to enter the parking lot, no scooter parking spaces left (Of all the times I’ve been there, there’s always scooter parking spots available), almost no trolleys left! and the lines at the cash register & the food court was crazy. Even my 7-year old daughter, who just loves to go there for fun and dont care about crowds, told me ā€œPapa! why are there so many ppl here today??!!ā€ :joy:

It’s hard to see why it’s so popular. Nothing really stands out from the promotion page as making it worth putting up with so many people…

Is it the NT$120 off shrimp dumplings?

Just got back from the Xizhi Costco. It was getting crazy, but I think we snuck in and out before the real carnage began. I’m now eating a calzone which is unexpectedly good.

Thought about getting this drone for my son. But I decided to let him choose his Christmas present.

Errr… should I?
