Thanks! I knew I was heading out shopping tomorrow afternoon, but didnāt know where. Now I know!
Iām not sure I ever had eggnog. Is it any good? What does it taste like?
For me it tastes like nostalgia and the Christmas of childhood - except back then it was probably more authentic eggnog, and no alcohol in my portion, whereas my parentsā had a slug of rum added in.
Google tells me eggnog is a little similar to advocaat. I donāt think Iād heard of that until two minutes ago, but maybe itās more familiar for Europeans? Or maybe if you turned tiramisu into an alcoholic beverage.
Itās sweet, sickly so for many. I heartily recommend trying a glass if oneās available for you, but buying 1.75L if youāre unsure is probably a bad idea.
This is good advice. I like it for the same reason as you do, but 1.75 liters? I imagine a good portion of that would be wasted, at least at our house.
It reminds me of how I got a bottle of Irish cream liqueur from an area of Ireland my grandparents were from. It was excellent. But we took a year or so to finish that bottle.
Well, here we go. I still have the bottle.
Iāve read that Irish cream should probably be drunk within 6-12 months of opening - and thatās in a temperate climate, not Taiwanās! However, Iāve kept it in the cupboard a lot longer than that, without apparent ill effects.
The eggnog does stay in the fridge: it lasts me a while, and it should perhaps concern me that I have no difficulties finishing it eventually. This time of year, sitting on the sofa with a glass of (Costco) eggnog and a (Costco) Christmas tree and (non-Costco) Christmas music - itās nice. Since Iāll likely have eggnog this weekend, it may also be the time to watch Muppet Christmas Carol.
Finally! Iāll run over to get a few bottles on the weekend.
I found the taste really fakeā¦didnāt like it at all. Tastes nothing like when you add real whisky to real eggnog.
Do you drink it hot or cold?
Cold but I think I tried it hot too. Tasted like artificial flavoring.
I might try to make it at home, although the only liquor I have is pastis, and it probably has a too strong flavour.
Itās ultra heavy and sweet. Pure dietary disease bliss! However, if it is your first time. For Godās sake!!! Donāt buy Costco brand and judge the beverage type. Their egg not is dog shit. But we make do ⦠I liken it to pearl milk tea from 711 amd outside of taiwan, just wrong. But it works for us that grew up with proper egg nog and canāt get anythjng real here
Fun fact, all the ingredients do exist here. And tastes [obviously] better than store bought crap. Just need a bowl, heat source, stirring utensil and a fridge. Plus. Can easily be alcohol free (actually, itās better without ethanol or salt)

Itās super easy to make at home, and you donāt have to make 1.75L. The ingredients will separate after a few hours, so if you make enough for 4 drinks, give it a stir as needed.
For me I like it with bourbon or cognac, not whisky or white liquors. I usually have a glass Christmas Day and one New Yearās Eve, and thatās it. So roughly 1L, including booze.
Anyway, to make it just a whisk will work, in a pinch.
The Costco one just tastes like cream with a shot of vodka in it. Itās very very sweet. Kind of similar to Baileys but without the whiskey flavor.
Eggnog is traditionally meant to have nutmeg in it, but the Costco one comes without - youāre meant to add it yourself.
The name is pretty off putting. Like eggs dont belong in drinks to begin with. And NOG? What the hell is that?

Less facetiously: one dictionary app is telling me āmay be from nog (āstrong aleā) or a shortened form of noggin (āsmall, carved wooden mug used to serve alcoholā)ā.
Apparently the word never appears in Shakespeare, which is disappointing.
