Do posters on forumosa represent (US) expats on Taiwan?

Are you serious ? I find the two towers conspiracy theory ridiculous, but people should definitely have the right to discuss such things. I hope things haven’t got this Orwellian ?

I can put it more succinctly if you would like. Anyone who supported Trump has done so at the expense of being called every name in the book for nearly 3 straight years. Many have done so at great personal loss of friends and family in the process.

I won’t say no one, but next to no one is returning to the Democrats until they start reflecting on themselves, their policies and behavior. Something to date they don’t seem to have any interest in doing.

You need to develop thicker skin. Politics is a blood sport and attracts less-than-stellar folks. It is why I find people from the left or right that advocate statism to be hopelessly naive. Will never work, not because of right or left, but because of infighting in hierarchies that is human nature.

Trump understands this human nature – the lawyer who mentored him (Roy Cohn) was a master of this take no prisoners attitude.

A lot of people in rustbelt states voted for him because of the politics of neglect. The Dems arrogantly assumed the folks in Michigan, Wisconsin, etc. would never vote for a Republican that supposedly goes against their class interests. Pure elitism and know your place politics on the side of the Dems.

To use a baseball analogy, it is a Red Sox fan (traditional Republican) supporting the Yankees (Trump) or vice versa (after they are eliminated) despite the history/hatred/rivalry because the alternative is an inferior National league team or a team without the longstanding traditions.

That’s one of the reason I love your posts Chewy, at least you are not of the opinion globalism is a tin foil hat conspiracy theory. You know what at the end of the day you may be right, but I would be skeptical having corporations supersede a Government (who at least in theory are supposed to represent the people) when their only sworn objective is to make more money by any means necessary.

Who in his/her right mind supports a con man? He (Trump) is not a ‘Robin Hood’. Trump cares only about Trump! He doesn’t care about the few thousands that show up on his one man big nonsense shows, they are just delusional.

Socialism (the left) is not a cure all, capitalism is not a cure all. As a business, entrepreneur you carry a social responsibility. It’s not just about making money, making billions, buying cars, houses, planes etc. and being the richest person on earth.

Fair point.

Ha. I worked on the staff of Republican campaigns in my state, sometimes paid, sometimes volunteer if I believed if them, or if friends believed in them. Or people I owed favors to. I’ve broken laws to get stuff done. There’s a difference between having a thick skin and wasting time. Which I’m now doing.

With the status of Saudi so low at the moment, I could see the US promoting official recognition of Israel from them as sort of a re-establishment of MBS`s reformist credentials (ignoring the fact that he is likely behind the Khashoggi murder).

Ridiculous. Most people live in echo chambers. Large areas are pro Trump .
Trump is extremely divisive and he hates on foreigners a lot… He’s also a serial cheater, thin skinned and obsessed about himself, a compulsive liar (Obama birth) and was given everything from birth.
He regularly praises dictators and murderers.

Intellectually he’s not there but he has street smarts , I’ll give him that.
In the end he’s not fit to be president but he is the president. Don’t be playing the poor me card cos you are getting kickback about supporting such a politician.
He’d one of the main reasons America is even more divided than ever.

Ok thanks for your contribution Brian, so brave.

That depends. First of all, what’s an expat? :ponder:

There was an outright white nationalist a while back. He left, or maybe he was banned. I can neither confirm nor deny.

Interestingly, he thought “of course” North Africans are “white”. So much for Islam being the greatest threat to the white nation. :idunno:

To be fair, Andrew didn’t start that thread.

A few did. They got called liars (“lying about lying about lying”) and politely exited. What did you expect?

First, you need to find some people who actually believe that. They’re out there, somewhere, but apparently they’re not on here.

Psychology, experience, and intuition.

You could still be wrong, but so could anyone, about anything. Even Discobot needs a tune-up once in a while.

Do you know any Presbyterians?

body slamming Rand Paul

Someone please refresh my memory.

You were playing the woe is me card , it doesn’t fit. Be proud of your choices !
Trump is a class A jerk but he’s your jerk. MAGA!
It’s all the Democrats fault that made us vote for Trump…What a load of manure.

Is it? If we even get to the point “what did we do wrong?” I think progress is being made. Unfortunately, from your response, I can see we are a long way away from that.

Thread title: “Do posters on forumosa represent (us) expats on Taiwan?”

Based on the posts in this thread, I hope not. The obsessions with Islam, Trump, etc have made me ask what on earth has happened to forumosa. I foolishly held to the belief that this forum has something useful to offer to those of us living in Taiwan, as minorities and in most cases without citizenship. I think we have lost the plot.

Forumosans, heal thyself!

Me too. (Unironic usage)

The discussions in IP are vile and bewildering to me. And a lot of those posters I get on very well with outside that forum.
