Often I get people complimenting me and saying “喔、你好漂亮!” and I of course feel super flattered but I also sometimes think they only think I’m pretty because I’m mixed race. But then again, even people in America have told me I’m pretty.
I have pale skin and brown hair and I’m pretty white passing but I’m also tall, mildly overweight and I dress very plain and I never wear makeup. (I cannot show pictures)
Sometimes I wonder if they could see the most unattractive person that happens to be mixed race and automatically think they’re pretty simply for having light skin
This means you’re only getting the basic version of laowai treatment. If you looked like a model, you would automatically have the pro version, but it’s not for everyone – some thrive with the extra attention, while others get stressed out.
If you looked like a supermodel, you would have the deluxe version, and the resulting stress would cause you to break out in hives every time you heard the word hello, unless you spent years training with a 師傅 to prepare yourself for it.
Supermodel plus makeup would give you the deluxe platinum laowai experience, which no 師傅 in the solar system will admit to having been able to master. The last one known to have tried spontaneously combusted and disappeared into a wormhole.
At the end of the day, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you’ve got the right beholders and the right level of attention for you, just relax and enjoy them while you can.
Hispanics are already white. No need to mix with white again. Even if they mix with native South Americans, they can still either be light or dark skinned. And I’m guessing pretty much a third to half of all Hispanics in the world (including Spain) are white.
