Expats: Why did you come to Taiwan?

I’m asked this question by almost every local I meet and trying to think of creative ways to respond. “My mom sent me here and said I can’t return to the US until my mandarin improves” “To get rich and make money” “To meet Taiwanese girls” I never ask a Taiwanese in the US why he/she there. It’s almost always for the money.

So Why Did You Come to Taiwan?

You live in Taiwan. A day, a month, a year, 5 years, 10, the question will come up why did you come here? It’s some how the most profound thing a Chinese can ever say to you. After 10 years you think about it—after a year you can only explain it. I don’t have any further insights on why to add to adventure.
