EZ Way App - Customs information

Update: After getting in touch with the developer I got this reply:

此問題是因為移民署核發居留證時,國籍(下圖紅框處)未依國際規範設定導致,
已向移民署及相關單位反應,預計將在四月底調整程式,麻煩您五月初再認證,
如果最近有貨物需要進口,請先聯絡報關業者索取紙本委任書申報,謝謝。

Seems like the nationality is not encoded to international standards on (my) ARC. They want to update itend of this month and I can try again next month.

It didn’t work for me either. Called them and they said they need to upgrade before accepting ARC. Should soon work, whatever means soon. Two weeks ago they said next week…

No, it is encoded the right way!

The format of the second row is:

Positions Length Chars Meaning
1–6 6 num Date of birth (YYMMDD)
7 1 num Check digit over digits 1–6
8 1 alpha+< Sex (M, F or < for male, female or unspecified)
9-14 6 num Expiration date of document (YYMMDD)
15 1 num Check digit over digits 9–14
16–18 3 alpha+< Nationality
19–29 11 alpha+num+< Optional1
30 1 num Check digit over digits 6–30 (upper line), 1–7, 9–15, 19–29 (middle line)

The nationality length is 3, but since Germany only needs D the other two slots are filled up with <

1619156305504

So D<< is correct!

Yes my expiration for APRC is set to 991231 → 2099.12.31 the latest date possible for the encoding standard.
Fun fact: it also could be 1999.12.31

Well in 70 years they have to come up with something new!
The year 2100 bug is coming! :bug:

Should I call them out on that?

Update: I received an email last Friday telling me that they updated the app and included the (correct) country code.
The verification process was swift and caused no further problems. All in all I’d say the app is now a 3 out of 5 stars. All they need to do now is translate the error messages and tooltips.

Glad you got issue resolved. Taobao still won’t accept new arc number for customs, so the app is useless for me.

Request for help processing an iHerb order:

So I re-downloaded this awful app (on an iPhone) because I’ve got an iHerb shipment that’s in Los Angeles with this warning, “Hold due to incomplete customs clearance document provided by customer, will be arranged when receive complete information.” I haven’t heard from iHerb or SFExpress at all - this was just from tracking the shipment.

I guess I want the Real Name Authorization on the app? When I select that, I get “This account has not yet been authenticated. Please return to the main screen and click ‘Setting’ → ‘Account Maintenance’ and ‘Reauthenticated.’” I click through to “Account Maintenance”, and there’s nothing about “Reauthenticated.”

When I registered years ago I apparently used my passport. I’m now trying to add my APRC as well. Um … how can I do this? I go to “Account Maintenance”, and under “Credentials” I’ve checked “Other Certificate”. I’m trying to change it to “Resident Certificate”, but that field won’t respond. For the different fields, I can change English Name, Chinese Name, Birth Date, Contact No., email, Address. But I cannot change “Nationality” (don’t want to anyway!), “Credentials” (maybe I should change it?), “ID Card No.” (currently my passport number), or “Real-Name Validation Status”, which is currently “General.”

I still have hope that iHerb / SF Express is just going to deliver the darn thing anyway. I always get the emails telling me to sign up, and I always ignore them, and I always receive the shipment. But this is the first time I’ve seen the “Hold due to incomplete customs clearance document” warning, so I fear this time is different.

follow this:

Then proceed as the App tells you.

If that’s not working I’d either contact the support or make a new account with your arc as id document.

I swear this app and process has to be the worst shit to ever be conceived by human beings. Had the exact situation as the poster above, except the Revalidate button in the app didn’t exist for me. OK, so I made another new account with my ARC instead. But now clicking on “Real name authentication” doesn’t do anything as there are no shipments tied to this account. So how do I get the SF shipment to look for the new account? How is it even tied together? Phone no on both accounts is the same. iHerb customer service just gives me copy and pasted FAQ crap.

If you’re referring to me, and the situation quoted below, I recommend just holding tight and waiting: I did nothing and waited, and the package showed up. Whatever was going on with that “Hold due to incomplete customs clearance document” warning turned out to have no effect.

(I should have followed up on this months ago, but forgot - @FenjiaJie, I gave you a like back then, but thanks as well for information that turned out to be so far unnecessary!)

You, good sir, have never been to a DMV in LA.

You’re welcome :slightly_smiling_face:. Sorry I couldn’t be of help in your case.

Oh, I’m sure it would have been helpful! But I adopted my usual approach to bureaucratic issues: procrastinate, lazily hope it goes away, and only deal with it when absolutely necessary.

You’d think that’d be a stupid approach, but it’s rather surprising how often it succeeds.

I registered on this when it first came out and got RNA around the time it was offered for foreigners, but I only used it for the first time this week. I ordered something from China on Shopee, two packages actually. I got a message on the app that one was coming. I clicked a few buttons, and now it’s waiting at 7-11. The other didn’t move. I don’t remember if I had the option to register it with EZWay when I made the order, but I think I didn’t. The one with which I did arrived first. Not sure if EZWay actually made it EZer or not, but I’m sure the second will arrive eventually.

I updated my ARC Card and had to change the ID Number saved in the app. This is how it works:

  1. Make a new account with the updated information, as there is no other way to do it. (I asked the customer service).

  2. Send an email to ezway@tradevan.com.tw with

  • Account number/ name
  • Your full Name
  • Old ID Number
  • E-Mail address of said account
  • Phone number of said account
  • Reason why you want to delete the old account.

That’s all. Took me 10 minutes to get everything done. Support answered in a timely fashion and was quite helpful.
I must say that they got better since the last time.

           EZway + Shopee + 7-11 + Cash On Delivery

Posting this here in the fervent hope that YOU, dear reader, might be spared the tedious ordeal I have just endured with this piece-of-shit app.

(feel free to skip to the end)

Sooooo…

I wanted to buy something on Shopee (from China/to 7-11/cash on delivery). Like I’ve done a million times before.

A message pops up saying that I have already reached my limit of six overseas purchases for the current six month period. I must pay a small import tax. Therefore, I’m instructed to download and register to the EZway app. No way around it.

The registration process was relatively painless.

So I go back to Shopee and try to complete the purchase. It brings me to some kind of authentication page where I need to enter my name and phone number. However, (and here’s the rub) it only allows you to enter a Chinese name. Yet it specifies that your details MUST match those on the EZway app (a catch 22 since my APRC has no Chinese name).

I return to the EZway app to see if there’s a way to add my Chinese name. Miraculously, there actually IS a space to do this! Unsurprisingly, there’s a message below explaining that this cannot be done in-app. Instead, I must put in a request by email.

I soooooooooooo don’t have time for this shit!

So I email them. Get a stock reply saying that it will take seven working days(!) to add a Chinese name to the account that I have created just five minutes ago. Are you fucking kidding me?! No other option, so I submit my details by email and wait…

Two + weeks later and still no response! Tried chatting to their “text support” within the app, in Chinese, only to receive a few robo-replies… in Chinese. Meanwhile, all of my sellers on Shopee are like: “fuck this shit” and cancel all of my orders.

Such an total pain in the hole! Moreso because, up until this point, the process had always been so seamless!

Finally, (three + weeks and several blunt emails later) they responded to say that my Chinese name was “in the process of being added”.

Checked the app and, sure enough, 我中文名字 was there! Transactions on Shopee are now going through without incident! They send a message every time a package reaches Taiwan customs. Just gotta to click “confirm” and they release it. Got my first package today. Yeah!!!

The moral of the story?

If you are a Shopee customer and are instructed to download EZway, be sure to add a Chinese name, even though it’s labelled “not mandatory”! Any three characters will do, I presume. It needn’t be an official name, since they’ve already got your deets on file.

Hope this saves someone else the hassle of finding out the hard way

I buy from Shopee often. Most items are shipped from China or the US. Never had to use EZ app at all with those orders. The seller or Shopee took care of everything.

Do you hit that six-delivery limit? @Chad_Hogan above apparently had this because of the six overseas purchases limit. I was interested to read that, because I believe this is the first time anyone’s posted here about actually being affected by that (only sporadically applied?) rule.

(Non-update on EZWay + iHerb: every iHerb order, I get notifications they need me to use the EZWay app. I ignore them. And the package arrives without any hassle. This happened most recently a week ago. But I’ve always stayed under the six-package limit.)

nope

I’ve ordered well over 6 deliveries and never had any trouble.

Interesting. It’s certainly been my impression that the six-delivery “rule” is almost never enforced. I wonder what actually triggered it in this case. Bad luck? Something else?
