EZ Way App - Customs information

Maybe it has to do with this type of activity?

EZ Way inquiry: so, I think I successfully registered (again) with the EZ Way app a couple of months ago. I’ve yet to use it. A DHL package from iHerb is waiting for my authorization, and DHL has sent me a long Chinese-language letter to fill in, and somewhere in the email there’s something about EZWay.

Main question: is there a way to show DHL the EZWay registration? How do I actually get them to use EZWay? What step am I missing?

(One fear for this is how I use several different email addresses, and my Chinese name, and sometimes my full English name but sometimes not the middle name, and between Chinese and English my address has probably been typed in any number of different ways across different websites.)

I shamelessly use my wife for this stuff, but when I forget to put her phone number or accidently put mine, it messes it up. So, my conclusion is that matching phone number on the DHL side and phone number in the EZWAY app is critical. That’s all I got.

Just login in the EZWay App and you will see the notification that you have a package , then confirm the information and that’s it .

You can use the tracking No. to check the status of the package in DHL

Thanks, but I did log in. There’s nothing there. I assume because iHerb and DHL don’t know about the EZway registration. As @squall1 suggested, I suspect one or more of the key numbers doesn’t match.

iHerb’s website gives me this:

When placing an order please ensure all information (including any characters and spaces) matches what was provided during the real-name authentication process via the EZWAY app to avoid customs issues.

I’m not optimistic about “forcing” a link. Email doesn’t match: EZway insisted I use upper-case, but my email is lower-case (I’ve never figured out when or if that matters these days). Name doesn’t match: EZway thinks I’m ADAMS JOHN QUINCY, iHerb thinks I’m John Adams. iHerb has a phone number +886-9xx-xxx-xxx; EZWay has 09xxxxxxxx. Lots of potential there for the connection to not work.

I don’t know if this order can be “fixed”, or if I should change my iHerb information so it matches what happens with the next order, or if it’ll make any difference.

Anyway, at least now I’ve got an English-language email from DHL asking me to fill out an English-language Letter of Authorization. First I’ve sent them an email with my EZWay details to see if that facilitates things; if not, I’ll worry about that letter tomorrow. (And even though it’s English, I don’t understand it! Business Account Number? Customs Management Number? Those aren’t telephone numbers - that’s another item further down.)

You can fill out the information in the app ( Paper letter of authorization) , there is an option for DHL , maybe that helps

Oh, that may go somewhere. Thanks!

From main screen: Paper Letter of Authorization / Confirm / “Go to Customs Brokers List” / Add DHL, and there’s a space for HAWB No - which is one of the numbers on the letter of authorization attachment they sent me. I typed that in, and now the app has uploaded all the other information like ID card, telephone number, email, signature, etc.

So I’ve done something to link EZWay to the current order. No idea if it’ll lead anywhere.

Try ignoring it and see what happens, at some point you’ll either receive it or get a phone call/email from someone desperately trying to resolve it in order to meet their KPI! I had a recent delivery from abroad and got an email from the courier company stating;

For Non-Taiwanese citizen, please reply this email by providing the below, our representative will proceed shortly.

  1. Legal English Name
  2. ARC Number
  3. Commodity Description
P.S. The above details was provided by overseas shipper, if any variance or gibberish as seen on screen, please kindly update it as correct information, thank you.

Ignored it, got the shipment 3 days later.

Had something similar where the local courier contacting me for EZ Way details for a gift someone was shipping to me from abroad, basically told them to go bugger off and ask the shipper for their details, got the package 3 days later.

I’ve just ordered something from China on Shopee and received this message after skipping all the EZ Way junk:

I don’t remember seeing that before. Does anyone know if I have to do something about this, or can I just ignore it? (I am actually registered with my real name on both EZ Way and Shopee, and when I confirmed the order Shopee said they’d use my real name and phone number for customs stuff, but I don’t have a Chinese name and Shopee won’t let me put my English name in the EZ Way box.)

Ive had that message before.
I ignored it and everything was delivered fine.

Thanks. Hmmm…though it’s still showing up 12 hours later as “To Pay” with the message, for COD (where the approval is usually pretty immediate/automated).

The last time I ordered something from China in November I didn’t bother doing anything either and it came just fine, with immediate COD approval. I hadn’t even registered on EZ Way for that order after a failed prior attempt a year or two ago. Will see what happens.

Incidentally, the EZ Way real-name registration went surprisingly easy for me this time. I was able to successfully upload pictures of my ARC and fill in my details, and the approval came through within 30 min.

I wrote to Shopee last night to complain, and surprisingly enough just got an e-mail back from them suggesting they’ll fix the issue by updating it manually on their end:

(I may or may not have played the discrimination card and suggested it was disappointing to see an international company not allowing resident foreigners to properly use their site.)

Did you not have to make up a Chinese name when you registered on EZWAY? They used to make you, though you could use your own name for the real name verification. Either way, you can get a Chinese name put on your ARC that will be your legal (I guess) Chinese name. It opens up a lot more options. There are a few other online shops and apps that won’t accept an English name at all, or not more than 5 characters.

No, I didn’t. I used my actual name in both fields:

Yeah, I know. I don’t want a Chinese name tbh (it’s not my name), and I want even less to go to immigration to get my ARC updated then be forced to downgrade to the new-and-not-improved number, whereupon I’ll need to update everything else, just so I can order some cheap China shit on Shopee.

I want to use my real name (which is permitted by EZ Way/Taiwan customs).

Maybe. I haven’t encountered them so far and guess I just wouldn’t use them if that’s their policy. Sometimes I just put in the first 4-5 characters and pretend I’m a European-sounding “Andre” or, less suavely, “Andr”.

I may have been overly optimistic earlier in thinking that Shopee was going to fix this immediately, or even quickly, or even slowly. Sent them the requested screenshot from the EZ Way app and received this later today (emphasis and poop emojis mine):

I don’t quite get from the machine translation whether I really need to wait 20-30 days or can place the order again now using a different payment method (?), but I’ll give the latter a go and see what happens (which is kind of annoying, because it’s multiple fiddly items and I don’t really want to do a card payment if I’m not sure I’ll ever receive the order).

What’s in a name?
We’re given our names, why not choose another? I’ve chosen two, but only my Chinese name has legal standing, and that only here.

It’s fairly easy to do with a Chinese name, but it’s possible it did take 30 days or more. It was a long time ago.

Because I don’t want to choose another. It isn’t my name, and I should be able to use my actual name to order things (which even EZ Way and Taiwan customs accept now).

But the main reason is that doing so would require finding the time to go to immigration at least twice, waiting a couple of weeks to get a new ARC, then having to deal with all the bullshit that comes along with being forced to get the new-and-not-improved ID number…and only then being able to re-register with EZ Way, deal with Shopee again, and re-submit the order. It wouldn’t be much faster, and it may well be slower.

An additional minor reason is that when I put a Chinese name on my ARC — which would most likely just be An-De-Lu (安德魯), which sounds stupid — that’s going to become the name that every Taiwanese person preferentially uses while I’m dealing with stuff at banks and hospitals and so on, and I don’t want that (because it’s not my name).

I wouldn’t do it for that reason also. But I’ve recently found some websites won’t let you register unless you do have the new style number.

On banks and stuff they use the English name, usually however that’s written on the passport. The only time I use my Chinese name is for online shops where I can’t use an English name.

Yesterday I was unexpectedly forced to change my mobile number as my 6 month prepaid plan was up. Anyway I am waiting on an important package that was sent before I got this new number i.e. it’s got my old number on the address. However, I stupidly updated my number on the EZ Way app so now I’m worried I’ll run into issues with Customs as my old number has been cancelled. Does anyone know if when they link packages to the app that they only compare the phone number on the address label and the registered number on the app? All of my other details are the same.

Thanks in advance!

Up until this week I’ve regularly received these two automated messages back to back when ever I’m expecting a package. The skeptic in me has always just ignored them. I’m constantly receiving txts and Line msgs to sign up for this or invest in that and I have no desire to make it any easier for scammers and phone sellers to contact me. It’s so bad I make a point to NEVER give my phone# or any other identifying info to anyone unless it’s absolutely imperative that I do so. That said I’ve been ignoring these messages on a regular basis for quite some time now. Despite me ghosting who ever is sending them, my packages have always delivered on scheduled. And I order a lot of crap from Amazon and on occasion eBay.

(message 1of2)
"您好,您的亞馬遜包裹將抵台,請實名認證EZWAY易利委以免延誤清關.外籍人士亦可居留證註冊.可加line@wpb5663y了解詳情.謝謝"
(message 2of2)
"請您用您的手機下載EZWAY 易利委, 綁定您的手機門號提交相關文件資訊,即可完成EZWAY實名認證。謝謝。ACS物流公司敬上"

Google translate:
(message 1of2)
“Hello, your Amazon package will arrive in Taiwan, please real-name authentication EZWAY to avoid delays in customs clearance. Foreigners can also register with a residence permit. You can add line@wpb5663y for details. Thank you)”
(message 2of2)
“Please download EZWAY with your mobile phone, bind your mobile phone number and submit relevant document information to complete EZWAY real-name authentication. thanks. Sincerely, ACS Logistics”

However, this week I received two separate (not back to back), differently worded messages. One on 6/20, and the other on 6/21.

(6/20)
"你的亞馬遜包裹將抵台由於未完成ez way實名認證,包裹無法放行,請儘速
完成ezway註冊登記。02-77307700 YD EXPR"
(6/21)
“你的亞馬遜包裹將抵台由於未完成ez way實名認證,包裹無法放行,請儘速完成ezway註冊登記。02-77307700 YD EXPRES”

Google translate:
(6/20)
"Your Amazon package will arrive in Taiwan. The package cannot be released because the ez way real-name authentication has not been completed, please hurry up
Complete the ezway registration. 02-77307700 YD EXPR"
(6/21)
“Your Amazon package will arrive in Taiwan. The package cannot be released because the ezway real-name authentication has not been completed. Please complete the ezway registration as soon as possible. 02-77307700 YD EXPRES”

So the messages have changed from “to avoid delays…” to “the package can not be released”.

However as of 7:30am today (6/22) my Amazon tracking shows:
“Package transferred to another carrier for delivery. TPE, TW”

Based on this, I’m assuming this package, which is the first of two that I’m expecting has already cleared customs. That said I suppose I’ll just continue ignoring the messages and see what happens. I’ll post back with an update if and when the packages arrives.
