Please point me to the location in Taipei where I can find a better draft beer than the GB czech pilsner and I will worship you henceforth as a diety*.
*diety worshiping stipulation is based on my own personal taste buds which favor hoppy pale ale
Well considering it’s probably brewed by the tonne in the US somewhere (unless somebody can advise me otherwise). As for a better draft in Taiwan…it’s not exactly competitive out there, I wonder how it stacks up to the Taiwanese ‘Le D’or’.
I think that the GB draft beer in Taiwan is brewed in Taichung (read it on these forums, don’t have a source). I know there’s not much competition for draft beer in Taiwan, and even less for hoppy draft beer. That GB Czech Pilsneur, although it’s still not hoppy enough for my tastes, is my favorite so far in Taiwan. Of course I’m not comparing it to US microbreweries, it wouldn’t even be on the list.
I like it, food wise it is basically a half to full step above Chili’s in quality (more in line with ‘The Cheesecake Factory’ and other newer US chains), and the beer choices are good. I love how some people on here clown the piss as second rate (like there are a ton of choices in TW), then again they are probably schlepping Taipiss in the brown bottle from the Family Mart to their apartment every weekend. The have a decent pomegranat mohito too (waits for someone to come in and tell everyone their mohito is crap).
I didn’t care for Jolly’s beer at all. Another place to try is La Ble D’Or, there is one in the Q Square and another in Xinyi Eslite. I do like GB’s beer though. Besides, Lorenza Fertitta is the CEO of GB, now if we could only get them to offer UFC live…
I have never even stepped into George Blersch but if I could just say one thing about it I’d have to say their Mohito is crap :roflmao:
Taiwan has a long way to go if a US chain brewing pish and chicken wings is the best we can find, I heard Japan has loads of microbreweries now.

I don’t think anyone’s disputing that Taiwan does have a long way to go in regards to beer. However, in Taipei we’ve got what we’ve got, and GB is the best place I know of for a variety of draft(ish?) beer selections.
Do any of the Le Ble D’Ors have windows? I’ve been to a couple of them and they both seemed rather subterranean.

Negatory on the windows. Le Ble D’Or is somewhat dungeonesque.
I like these places (GB, TGIF, etc.) IF you stick with getting a burger and a single beer. You get your fix and get out. Not good for an entire evening of drinking and for any of their fancy dishes which are just mediocre anyway.
I remember trying out Jolly’s mentioned up thread about 10 years ago with a mate. We were seated at the bar, and every time we ordered beers it took them about 15 minutes to get them, the tap was right there in front of us, I was dying inside.
