I went to McDonald's and I'm a bit traumatized

They still have them in Taiwan. I get one with a meal every once in a while. They taste just how I remember them from when I was a kid.

que? they’re still in the US.

edit: scratch that, missed the fried part.

I remember living in Queensland in the 1980s where they didn’t have the breakfast sandwiches.

Then going to Coffs Harbour in NSW where they did…bliss in having an Egg McMuffin.

I used to make my own egg McMuffin back in the states because the patties and the muffin is sold at grocery stores. In Taiwan, it’s cheaper to order it from McDonalds, especially the right muffins and patties are going to be very expensive if you can get them at all (I know you can get english muffin from Costco).

It isn’t hard. Just egg, patty, and cheese, and grill the muffin a little bit.

I was in Oz a couple of weeks ago. At train stations in Sydney Maccas is all digital. You have to download an app to order and its only take away as they no longer rent places for seating. Staff don’t take verbal orders and they no longer accept cash. All done on phone banking app or credit card. Most people using phones.

I know this is a little off topic, but what if your phone doesn’t work with the codes or is too old to run the app?

I’ve run into friends who have this issue with QR code restaurants.

It’s a global trend

You go hungry lol Or you simply go to another place to eat. I couldn’t be arsed to download an app for a brief stint as a tourist.

Is it hard to carbonate, soak in plastics, infuse with XYZ then serve in something better?

Win win. The plastic taste sensation still gets in your body, it still tastes the same and we are creating less lung related illness based on reduced smog.

Yes, it’s a global trend. In my neck of the woods, the local functions like a pub - if a pub closed at 10:30a, didn’t serve alcohol, and offered nothing but breakfast and conversation on the bill. It’s an early-riser “pub” for old folks - but it does serve a similar function. Lots of older folks gather to chatter away for an hour or so each morning.

Anyway thanks to Covid it’s probably all going away (in California the recent change to the minimum wage will accelerate things). Covid caused corporate McD to remove the self-serve soft drinks station as corporate policy. In my area, the footprint of most McDs could easily facilitate a kiosk-driven takeaway business model. Would take the will to do so and of course some additional franchisee investment. It’s on the horizon.

Not sure what you mean, but Coca-Cola delivers its syrup to McD in stainless-steel containers. It’ll prolly be the diabetes that takes you down, not the plastic.

Well ya, they are a concentrate company by nature. Syrup in terms of just the beverage of “coca-cola”. Sure, that is well known and long standing. But that’s not how the consumer receives their product. They normally receive it in plastic. Or plastic coated metals and papers. Which was the above point, infused with sarcasm.

Actually, I seen the syrup in various restaurants. They’re in plastic lined cardboard boxes.

The stainless steel container is CO2 cylinders for carbonation.

Evidently not all McD receive syrup in stainless.

I don’t know the details, but when you look into it please get back to us; I am curious.

I think it’s relatively simple. Syrup isn’t infused with CO2. Its just syrup. They are mixed to serve. Even the smaller companies with fountain type drinks mixed their product together (many you can see as a customer in the retail outlet).

Companies like Coke just export syrup and cooperate with 3rd party companies to distribute. This means also mixing (“manufacturing”) in the region.

One of the big reasons taste changes. Outside of obvious government fda related regulations on various ingredients being allowed or not. The water itself make s a big difference. Though coke has numerous syrup and combination recipes tailored to different countries.

Well, the ice cream machine always breaks, and now this…

Send your kids to the McDonald’s camp for a small fee of 699NTD. They can dress up and simulate to make/serve junk food to their parents, who can post it to social media!

Good training for a future career in burger flipping, and serving food on Air Force One.

Isn’t that pretty much what DJT did?
