Ideas for a 'foreign' staycation and/or adventure in Taiwan?

“At Wednesday’s event, about 1,000 tourism operators set off on nine separate inspection tours across Taiwan to explore new travel destinations and packages that comply with COVID-19 control measures.”

New travel destinations?

No, you’re in … well you work here.

Heck, I haven´t even been to the new IKEA in Xindian. At first, too crowded, afterwards, not recommended.

I think a 7-11 day trip is more my speed. :sunglasses:

I dropped by Lion Travel to look at what they had for the take your pet along packages. they have a very interesting one to a forest in Taoyuan mountains, with SPA for you and your pooch. Then there is another package with training session at Wuling Farm.

You know how they have to leave the extra seat empty in tour buses for social distancing? Well, now dear doggie sits there. And they charge owner. Clever, very clever.

A round of applause to enterprises in Taiwan that adapt to the environment and figure a way to make money. The pet tours are booked throughout June.

Have you ever been in a bus with ten dogs?

I saw a double decker tour bus with like 20 dogs. Saw them doing the pram procession to get into the Flora Expo. That´s as far as it went.

I can imagine Bobby going bonkers though. He loves bus / taxi rides, but with other dogs… who knows.

This cute B&B looks a lot like my house in the old country…Miaoli may not sound like a very nice place but it is great for hiking, biking, exploring out of the way villages.

Oh that is nice. And Sanwan is a really beautiful spot, Miaoli has quite a few hidden hideaways. I call it ‘hobbit country’.

Yep, far from the crowds, the pollution, the heat…

There’s basically nobody in most of Miaoli county except old people . Hence quiet and peaceful . Hakka people are low key. But escape from the heat…hmmm might be pushing it.

Look, even in Xindian it is 2 degrees cooler than Taipei. I´ll take what I can get.

I’ve tried to stay here a couple times. They’re like two similar places in the area and not much else interesting as far as sleeping arrangements. They seem always full.

When Covid-19 first hit, the government offered subsidies to the internal tourist industry. They just said they wanted to shut off the subsidies to the east coast (Yilan, Hualien, Taitung) and continue it for the west, because so many people were vacationing here.
Starting with Dragon Boat Festival and continuing up to this weekend it’s just been crazy. My two oldest sons are in the tourist business, and they were worried around about March and April- now they bitch about the workload and complain they can’t get a day off. My oldest son regrets all those photos he sent to his friends from college about how good the outdoor scene is here- they all came. If you can’t go to Thailand, Bali etc. this is the next best thing- far from it, but there you are.

Yep, complains aplenty:

Yeah, just heard complaints about the blackouts on Orchid Island today.

To those feeling stuck in Taiwan, I’ll gladly trade places with you. Try being an Asian looking person in a foreign country during Covid-19 now.

Life during Covid-19 is a lot more “normal” in Taiwan compared to other places, thanks to a well-managed response. You could go around the island - Taipei down the West coast - go into Nantou up to Alishan - back out to West coast - down south - up the East coast back to Taipei. Food, temples, tea picking, nature, etc.

My favourite vacation spots are along the East coast. Just beautiful.

The same goes for ten million other people this year.

To be fair I’m sitting at a water park today in the south of Taiwan and life is good. :grinning::sunglasses:

Now chiayi Ruili area .

Nooo, not the water park! More scenic, less mainstream areas.

Beautiful photos, enjoy your vacation. Nostalgia

Here’s another idea…
Hsinchu county, Smangus!
