Identity politics and dating

He is a good actor though.

He certainly is that. He does tend to concentrate on creepy characters - but he plays them outstandingly.

According to his brother this is because they had an abusive childhood and he’s dealt with it by becoming a fullblown psychopath who fakes his way through life. So it’s like he’s always acting.

Kind of interesting. Mostly disgusting. And terrifying.

Is he an innocent victim or a guilty perpetrator? It gets complicated.

I think you can be both.

It’s certainly very sad when the abused becomes the abuser. But in the end it’s still totally reprehensible.

At this point we don’t know if he was abused. Should it be a mitigating factor if he’s found guilty? Totally reprehensible is something we’d all agree with, of course.

Miley is clearly disinterested in those who are unable to buy their own damn stuff.

It’s hard to say. He’s a repeat offender and based on that spooky video he doesn’t seem willing or able to take the allegations made against him seriously. It’s like he just doesn’t have a normal personality. Might lack a conscience. Who knows if he’s even capable of responding to treatment, which he supposedly sought sometime last year.

In my opinion it’s safer for everyone else if people like that are locked up and the key is thrown away. Prison, nuthouse, whatever. He doesn’t seem to have what it takes to actually get better. But I also just think sex offenders in particular are awful to the extreme, especially when minors are involved…

Nobody, barring sex offenders, are going to disagree with your last sentence.

Locking people up and throwing away the key is good for the guilty.

So, at this point, should Kevin Spacey be locked up and have the key thrown away?

Just joined the site but have been watching for a few months:

"But, is this a thing in the west?"

Yes, you get shut down pretty hard if you say “I like Asian women” in America I believe. In London you will find a gulf opening up around you. I don’t know the undertones in the USA and I would guess they are not as well nuanced as here but…

I would say kinda rightly so, it does more harm that you realise over here. In the current snowflake environment you absolutely can not say that one group is more preferred that another. It doesn’t help are often web-savy/nerdy white guys in the west, the common enemy for any SJW’s in the US I believe. The same crowd that become English teachers in Japan for the wrong reasons.

Why pipe up on this? I’ve had a few conversations with other white guys were we are aware of how much a dis-service this does to actual Gentleman who have married for the right reasons. It only serves to further some suspicion of the white devil and if you are a white guy dating an Asian lady in London people get suspicious of both your intentions.

SO, that one gets shut down for saying “I like Asian Women” is both a product of the SJW movement (which I don’t subscribe to) and one that has then been furthered by a groundswell of their sometime-enemy, the WDSOBLL (White Dudes Scared Of Being Labelled Loosers), which I subscribe to.

Summary:
I’ve no issue with you saying, “I like Asian women” (any reasoning is left out of this for the purpose of the point), but just FYI saying it in the West has become a no-go. Though not necessarily for the reasons you’d expect (i.e. the WDSOBLL will happily agree to this one)

I think in American it is translated as: Jocks will throw Nerds under a bus anyday.
In England we are trying to pretend that we are all Gentlemen and hide behind that.

Only my second or third post, haven’t read the rest of the thread yet. Too busy cooking for my wife.

The thing about “I like Asian women” is Asian women on the whole share a pretty small set of common physical characteristics. Our coloration, eye shape, nose shape, face shape, lip shape, teeth shape, body shape, height, “assets” etc. etc. etc. can vary pretty widely. Of course some characteristics tend to recur. But Asian women, and women of any race, can still look quite different from one another, and can share the same type of features. Some Asian women and black women have similar noses. Some white women have hooded eyes that look like “Asian” eyes. Women of all races the world over are born with black hair, and so on.

So it begs the question, what does it really mean to say “I like Asian women”? Are you saying “I prefer petite women” or “I prefer brunettes” or whatever recurring physical feature it is that you find particularly attractive in Asian women? Wouldn’t it make sense that you’d also like those features in a woman of any race?

There just doesn’t seem to be a reason to isolate a preference to Asian women in particular. To say you prefer a particular race reduces that race to a strange monolithic entity with one single face and body.

You might just like japanese girls but can’t differentiate so just assume it’s asian.

Well, sure. That just exposes a person’s ignorance. Or perhaps their porn consumption habits.

It would actually make better sense to me if people just said they like the mass-marketed beauty ideal of a particular race, since that’s the most widely visible model of that race’s appearance and generally the first (positive) image that comes to mind.

Or that they just like beautiful women and handsome men!

I don’t think men are thinking about that in general. They’re thinking of people they know or encounter.

I mean how well do you differentiate between europeans or Africans. You can tell a Igbo nigerian and Yoruba Nigerian?

I honestly don’t know where you could possibly be going with this.

I’m saying I think it’s weird when people say they like x race. Like I could show one guy who says he likes Asian girls a picture of Fan Bing Bing and he’d be like “nice!” but then if I showed him a picture of a portly brown-skinned Southeast Asian girl he’d be like “no, not that kind!” Or, I could show another guy who says he likes Asian girls a picture of Fan Bing Bing and he’d say “eh” but he’d think the portly brown-skinned Southeast Asian girl was a cutie pie.

What I’m saying is, expressing a preference for a particular race seems somehow both too inclusive and too exclusive. What’s the point? Isn’t it just that you like black hair, or short chicks, or slim bodies, or x color skin? Isn’t it just that you think your girlfriend is pretty, whatever race she happens to be?

People think of ideal women of that particular race they like. You know how many men I’ve heard say they LOVE Russian girls…without actually knowing what the average russian girl looks like in bum fuck siberia. I crackle at their ideas of russian women after dating one for a short while and having her show me what most russian women actually look like.

Right, that’s the point I was making earlier about them having in mind a race or country’s particular beauty ideal, and not actually the women in general. That’s why it doesn’t make sense to me to say “I like Russian women” because it seems to imply that you think 6 foot 200 pound Olga who could rend you limb from limb is hot, too.

It makes more sense to simply say “I like leggy babes with sharp features and blonde hair” or whatever it is they’re into, that some Russian women happen to be.
