The several times Iâve been there, I also thought the burger was pretty good â off the top of my head, probably the best or close to the best Iâve had in Taiwan â but the place is too small, congested, and harshly lit for me to much enjoy the âexperienceâ.
If it were several times bigger with more comfortable chairs (or maybe even booths) and some beer options (or even milkshakes) rather than only generic soft drinks, I might enjoy it more and stick around a bit, but in its current format I kind of just want to eat my pretty good burger and leave for somewhere moreâŚgemĂźtlich.
So many places here donât do table service, a lot of the time I feel like Iâm inconveniencing the staff just by showing up; but never at Webberger, theyâre actually friendly
Or another one that really gets me is going to a place only to find that theyâre randomly closed (another reason I prefer to cook at home). The simple fact that theyâre open when they say they will be keeps me happy.
Smokey Joes is a good counterpoint. I recall waiting almost an hour for my food, being told it was because of the fries, and then getting cold fries in addition to a burger that tasted like the meat was off. Not a good experience, but yeah the restaurant looks cool
Kaohsiung has set the bar low
Other places like Beast or Bottoms Up maybe have a larger and more trendy interior, but if I want a burger thatâs not where I go
I donât go there to hang out. Donât really hang out anywhere, anymore. Is there anywhere good to hang out in K-town?
Fair enough. Yeah, I recall the staff being friendly but donât remember the music that was playing when Iâve been there (which probably just means I didnât hate it).
Maybe itâd just be nice if they had more seating, so I wouldnât feel in a rush to finish and clear a table for the next customer.
Itâs a toss up between Arkansas Diner and Bottoms Up for me. Iâve had their burgers there several times and thereâs not much between them. Arkansas uses (to the best of my knowledge NZ beef) and Bottoms Up uses USDA beef⌠thereâs a hole in the Wall joint just off San Duo 4th road called Good Rolling that deserves more attention. Itâs opening hours are a little inconsistent but prices are reasonable
Has McDonaldâs upped their burger game? I passed by a McDâs and a guy was sitting by the window eating a burger and it looked much better than in the past. I havenât had a McDonaldâs burger in at least a couple of decades when they used to be thin, greasy patties on overly moist buns. The one I saw this guy eating had what looked like a decent size, thick patty with good looking lettuce and tomatoes and a decent bun. Just curious, has McDonaldâs introduced a gourmet burger or something?
I donât know what exactly a BBQ burger is, but if youâre looking for Southern style BBQ brisket or pulled pork sandwiches, then Arkansas Diner has them.
EDIT: Wait, are you talking about barbecuing the hamburger patty? Arkansas Diner has burgers too, but Iâm not sure if they BBQ them. Usually you save the BBQ for real meat.
Ya, exactly. bbq, on a grill with smoke. not a pan, iron sheet or gas grill. typical outdoor charcoal/wood fired bbq like I. the US or Canada. I really want to share with some friends that style of burger if possible
edit. Yes, ground beef patty. itâs not high end meat, but the flavor is exactly right
Then you canât go wrong with Arkansas Diner. Even if they donât offer BBQ burgers (I think they do), they still have BBQ brisket, pulled pork, and ribs, which are 100x more impressive than BBQ ground beef patties.
As a general rule, I agree with this. Never had a bad meal or a bad experience. And they have pie
In my quest for the best burger in town I only had one there, which was decent but I think if it had been wood/charcoal grilled that would have stood out
If they cook their ribs etc. over wood/charcoal, that would be awesome, but Iâm skeptical because they have an indoor second floor kitchen. An electric oven would be more sensible
I usually go there for biscuits, and pie
I smell meat cooking over charcoal around town sometimes, but I never stop to track it down. Anyways, I know they do it for local foods. I should make the effort because I also grew up with an outdoor BBQ in the summer and it does make a difference
I did get a little portable BBQ thing for camping, big enough for a pile of charcoal and wood and a few burgers at a time. Just havenât had time to try it out yet
I wonder if those are yakiniku restaurants youâre smelling. Iâve been to a few places here that use nets over charcoal, but I donât remember which. Maybe Yakiniku Shojo? Or maybe it was Showapark next to Hanshin mall.
Yeah youâre probably right about Arkansas Diner. Iâve only been there once and didnât actually order any BBQ meats, so I canât say.
Changing the list format again because most of these places I only had one burger quite a while ago and donât want to discourage their prospective customers. My review(s) can be found up thread. I might alphabetize that list.
Would also be interested to hear from other people who have burgered at these places recently and think someone deserves another chance at the title

TGI Fridays: The toppings were nice and fresh, patty was ok but a bit dry, bread was a bit cakey. Service was fantastic, but the food didnât live up to the price tag.
I agree with all of that. But specifically wanting burgers. everyone I want to take has had steak, pork etc. I mean burger, wood fired smokey bbq madness. that is what they havent had yet. I could cook it easily at home on bbq for them, but the idea is to have a âgo out for a mealâ vibe it creates a different, well, everything for them.
Sure it isnt just people bbq at home? people do the charcoal bbq at home year round. There are also loads of charcoal bbq joints everywhere. many are all you can eat. the all you can drinks ones are dangerous! But their meat is usually the cheap stuff (thin sliced), usually whole or balls or the thick things are usually fish or chicken. I have yet to see a place clean enough to handle ground beef for a bbq grill that is DIY. for good reason. but I would love to find a place that does use wood to fire up burgers for their customers!
Family went to burger king last month. I have to say, breakfast shop and nightmarlet burgers are superior!

Fabao: Great location, great service, great bun. The Doritos keep the toppings from making the bun soggy, I think. Aside from the Doritos, nothing seemed French except the marketing (that will appral to a certain group, Iâm sure). The patty consistency was great, but overall flavor was lacking. Fries were great. I wasnât particularly hungry when I went, I think it is worth a second visit to try again.
