Mexican Food in Taipei

In summary, damn good food with great host.

Sadly, still terrible location.

It is a bit obscure, but not that hard to get to.

When I visited, Judy mentioned that she does get a lunch rush from the nearby office towers, so at least that helps her business.

I think interested customers will find her shop, as we did.

Has anybody tried Roll Five Mexican Burrito at Taipei Arena? It’s new. If it’s any good, I’ll have to make it a weekly thing (swim followed by some Mexican food), that is, if the lines aren’t too long.

Yeah just round the corner from the red room. Good place to have a beer and watch the traffic afterwards

Every Mexican I’ve met thinks burritos are not real Mexican food; they think it’s US style. So naming a shop “Mexican Burrito”—that’s provocative!

Full disclosure: I actually really like burritos, though I have not tried this shop.

Definitely Mexican, although mostly found in northern Mexico where flour tortillas are prevalent.

Masa Taco

Food is not as great as before and less options. I keep trying but less and less interested and I don’t really want to eat it anymore. Wonder if same owners as originally.

Also, no customer service now.

  1. Order food and pay via machine
  2. Keep looking at window in wall until food pops out and then go check your number.

How is Masa’s Zhongshan branch doing lately?

Guy

Debatable. Border food so could’ve started on either side of the border. Plus the burritos you’ll get in northern mexico look very different from the American version.

Masa went unbelievably downhill. They brought out free chips for the table while you wait, while bringing the quality of the rest of their food down.

They actually eat burritos in Mexico? I thought they were an American invention.

I hate to hear this :pensive:

Change of ownership? What happened? :slightly_frowning_face:

Concur, I haven’t been to Masa since they put this self order machine in, but my most recent visits have not been as good. The tortillas, which used to be a highlight, have been sub-par. They also took al pastor off the menu which was my favorite. I think they’ve also been distracted with burgers and cheese steaks.

They do in Juarez. It’s a quick/cheap breakfast food but their much smaller than what you get in the US.

Then they should be called burritoritos.

This place is really good (SoCal style): Tako 大口餐室

Mexican food in the Mackay Memorial Hospital part of Datong? That seems bold . . . unless I suppose this area is now considered “outer Zhongshan” with its heaps of hipster followers.

Guy

Tako is excellent.
