Mitch McConnell goes against his own made up rule

I have talked to Republicans who openly support constant gerrymandering to the point of eliminating Dems chances of winning any local elections, support opposing anything (no matter what it is) that Dems propose, love lies spread about Dems, love the idea that Republicans could try to possibly end open federal elections in favor of some new system to restrict voting by opposing party, supporting an immigration system to kick out selected first generation citizens, etc.
Meanwhile these same guys call themselves patriots saving America. I have always considered myself a Republicanā€¦but I think these people are sick and the biggest threat to Americaā€¦much more than all those so called ā€œsocialistsā€ (everyone who is not farā€“right). And yet the far right wants everyone else to apologize to American yet never admit their power hungry ways. In over 3 years Trump has nothing to apologize forā€¦every problem always is the fault of Obama, Clinton, Biden, local Blue governors, etc.

This has bothered me for years. A good idea is a good ideaā€¦regardless.

Not these days.

A basic principle of the law ā€” and of everyday fairness ā€” is that we apply rules with consistency, and not based on whatā€™s convenient or advantageous in the moment," (Obama) continued.

If only.

So I assume that you think that Trump should nominate a SCOTUS justice? Or did you oppose Obamaā€™s nomination of Garland?

When did that happen? I thought it was earlier in the year, yeah?

Yes. What is the correct timing on the issue to avoid the obvious hypocrisy of supporting Obamaā€™s nomination and opposing Trumpā€™s despite the fact that Obama was a lame duck with an opposition Senate and Trump is not and does not?

Iā€™m not arguing against it. Was just fact checking.

That ended when FDR threatened to pack the court if they didnā€™t begin to ignore the constitution.

Your fact check had a noticeable lack of fact checking in it.

Ha. Itā€™s a process in guessery.

Here we go.

On March 16, 2016, President Barack Obama nominated Garland to serve as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy created by the death of Antonin Scalia.

I donā€™t think you know what a fact check is. Or, perhaps more accurately, you are engaging in the same ridiculous arguments as many fact checkers do: ā€œyes, what you said was factually accurate, but I disagree with the point so Iā€™m going to argue against the point and call it a fact check.ā€ At least you didnā€™t rate my post ā€œmostly falseā€.

All I am saying is that Obama nominated Garland much earlier in a lame duck presidency.

What do you think Iā€™m saying?

Trump is a lame duck? I call fact check!

Which is a political thang soā€¦so what? Iā€™m not surprised that Trump would choose do go against the grain. Doesnā€™t mean I support what heā€™s doing. :idunno:

And Iā€™d say, refer to the Harry Reid comment earlier. Chickens and roosting. Mitch was spot on and he has a loong ass memory.

Hate to say it, but I think the Right is going to parallel this kind of thinking: Go for it.
From the article:

Trump should see this vacancy as an opportunity to make it clear what this election is about.

Bodyā€™s not even out of the cooler.

It doesnā€™t surprise anyone that McConnell is putting party over country, thatā€™s fairly obvious.

But

There are reasons for this, namely US elected officials have a duty to put county over party and uphold the constitution. It looks like the GOP and their supporters have officially abandoned democracy altogether out in the open at this point. Not even going through the motions anymore.

He would be principled because America is built on a set of principles called the constitution.
