MORE hypocritical family-value Republicans!

Turns out that it’s a live boy, with the emphasis on boy, going back - oh, cliche- to his days as a high-school wrestling coach.

Knowing Denny had been a middle-class ex-teacher when he entered Congress, I wondered why he would pay out such huge sums. I hadn’t realised that while Hastert started out middle-class, he became a multi-millionaire while serving as House Speaker, mostly from real estate deals such as buying up a chunk f property and then having a federal highway built near it.

I also assumed that, being a conservative Mid-Westerner with a deep love of the Heartland and the Real Americans (trademark Sarah Palin) who live there, he would have returned to a simple life in his home state after leaving office.

Ha Ha Ha, as fred would say. Denis has been raking in millions as a Washington lobbyist cutting deals for his clients with his old colleagues; that is what he was trying to protect.
Drrrrrr, I want his own family to not forgive him so that I can use them to white knight all over my enemies. Frahahahahaha!

Those poor republicans, I mean… how can we expect them to keep the standard of not molesting children?! :loco:

And by “forgive” he means “conceal it from the police/child welfare, ignore the victims, cover it up so the father can run a political campaign demanding people guilty of incest be executed, only report it when an outsider blows the whistle, lie about that, sue the Arkansas Child Welfare Dep’t to make sure it stayed buried, and then rake in money by pretending to be a perfect family on reality TV while denouncing gays for the crime that the parents were covering up, then get a job as a lobbyist for an anti-gay group in Washington to demonise homosexuals for the crime that he had committed and finally have a sympatico judge try to wipe the official record as soon as it was reported.” And then whine about the mean liberals who won’t give him forgiveness.

I’d like to introduce Josh Duggar to a Christian I know who said this:
As for the last point, all of the former points tie together to support an as yet not fully formed conclusion. For example, when do forgiveness and charity overlap when the forgiven wants something from you? A shallow “red letter” reading of the bible says that a Christian should always forgive, a deeper reading tells us that a Christian can defend himself (including physically), take revenge (for others) and flee from persecution. This is all to say that forgiveness can be internal and its terms are controlled by the one who forgives; it does not necessarily provide any economic boon to the one who is forgiven.

In the passage on forgiving someone “seventy-seven times”, Jesus says that a Christian should always forgive and uses a debtor as an example. Does he say though that you must give the debtor another loan once you’ve forgiven him? No, he doesn’t. The king in his example also imprisons the debtor for not doing the same, e.g. he takes revenge for another. All of these things combined show the internal or spiritual nature of forgiveness and indicate that the forgiver can control its terms beyond the point of not seeking personal revenge.
I for one am not seeking personal revenge on Josh Duggar

The cartoon would be far more accurate if the bars said “Moral Standards Preached to Others”, and the elephant is crawling on the ground under it.

As always, religious conservatives get hung up on the idea of “consent”.

(Witness Scott Walker defending a law forcing women seeking an abortion to undergo and view compulsory ultrasounds -presumably because women seeking abortions are too stupid to realise what “being pregnant” mean- because his viewing ultrasounds when his wife was pregnant was “cool”.)

That’s because in their eyes it’s the sex itself that is bad. When something like the Duggar case comes out, they respond “oh, you liberals are the ones that want high-schoolers to have access to contraception.”

On the Hastert case: “I thought you liberals believe gay sex is okay”

A formerly-home-schooled blogger from the Duggar style religious movement puts it well

Conservative sexual ethics:
What God forbids-
gay sex , pedophilia, bestiality, pre-marital sex, polyamory

What God allows-
marital sex

Liberal sexual ethics:
Forbidden- non-consensual sex
pedophilia, bestiality, rape

Allowed- consensual sex-
marital sex, gay sex, pre-marital sex, polyamory

patheos.com/blogs/lovejoyfem … thics.html

Thus extra-marital sex is fine if you and your spouse agree to it; otherwise not.
Marital rape is wrong (some conservatives agree, others don’t- or more precisely, they don’t believe a wife has the right to decline to have sex when her husband wants it.)

Mikey, I notice polygamy, prostitution and pornography are missing from your list of approved sexual activities. Would that be because even liberals have their limits as to how much consenual adult sexual activity they’re willing to tolerate?

I don’t know what the person who made the list thinks of them, but I’m cool with all three, given the usual stipulation about equality and protection for those involved.

Incest, now…that’s a tricky one.

So we already know Mike Huckabee defends child molestors. I bet you didn’t know he wishes he could be a peeping Tom in a women’s bathroom or shower. Commenting on transgendered people back in February, Huckabee said:

usatoday.com/story/opinion/2 … /28694525/
What this article picks up on is Huckabee’s lack of understanding about transgendered people. Now of course, I agree he shows a mocking and ignorant attitude. However, the article totally misses the part that he jokes he wishes he could find a good excuse to be a pervert…and gets an uncontested laugh! This is textbook projection defined. Now who would think to change their gender to be a peeping Tom? Only Mike Huckabee, apparently. These guys just can’t help themselves.

I haven’t read the whole thread, so apologies if this is redundant… but here’s a novel way in which Republicans are being hypocritical, and it cracks me up to no end:

Republicans Want The Pope To Stay Out Of Politics Unless It’s Conservative Politics

When have they ever had any problem with religion in politics? Every other day they’re passing new anti-abortion bills, pro-discrimination bills and trying to block marriage equality, all squarely on religious principles. I read a quote not long back (pre-Francis) by Huckabee (or Jindal or Santorum or Cain… I have trouble telling those guys apart) calling for more religious leadership in politics. Hell, 57% of their voting base support making Christianity the national religion.

It’s pretty obvious that it’s not religion in politics they’re against… just religion that doesn’t support their politics. And here is where they get bitten in the ass by their own failure to understand history’s lesson about religion in politics. Good riddance.

Yeah. Hypocrisy. Funny thing, isn’t it?

I was just thinking how this thread has turned into the same 2-3 people playing catch with each other over how they hate people who have different values. When someone comes to a forum that’s supposed to be about Taiwan, clicks “new” and sees this kind of thing being bumped and tolerated, I would assume that a normal person would go and look elsewhere for things that are relevant to Taiwan?

For the record, I hate you. There! Happy?

I’m guessing you missed the title at the top of every page of this sub-forum that says “International Politics”?

Next post: “How come every time I click on the “Diskussion auf Deutsch” link there’s a bunch of people talking some weird foreign language?”

What do you expect when you see this thread title and click it. Pictures of kittens and puppies? Oh wait, I know…

Speaking of the GOP vs. Pope Francis, as often happens, The Onion nails it:

Frustrated Republicans Argue Pope Should Leave Science To Handful of Scientists Who Deny Climate Change

(I added the “handful of” part, as it’s true)

Meanwhile, here’s the kind of religious interference in politics Republicans are A-okay with… this is the former pastor of my sister’s church in California back in 2009, declaring Obama to be the anti-Christ in the church bulletin:

100 Days, or the End of Days?
Abortion is our god and Obama, Pelosi, Kennedy are his prophets. His sacrifice is the life of infants and the souls of mothers. His priests are doctors who perform abortions. His church is Planned Parenthood and FOCA, (freedom of choice act). His covenant promises rights and freedom for women. It delivers death of infants, permanent damage to the souls of women, of men, of politicians

Homosexual lust is our god and Obama, Bishop Gene Robinson, and the Democratic Party are his prophets. The sacrifice is personal integrity and corruption of the body and spirit. Its priests and priestesses are men who have sex with men (MSM) and women who have sex with women (WSW). Its church is the Human Rights Campaign and other activist organizations, Pride clubs and “gay” and “lesbian” centers. Its covenant offers false promises of equality with those who have normal sexual feelings and inner peace. It delivers disease, prolonged adolescent immaturity, and oppression of the church and good people who live upright moral lives.

Money is our god, and the the wealthy and welfare are its prophets. Its sacrifice is hard earned savings and retirement. Its priests are those taking obscene profits by defrauding investors, and those who choose government money over honest work. Its church is a non vigilant Securities and Exchange Commission and congress. Its covenant promises self reliance and security in wealth or sustenance. It delivers collapse of the economy, unfair distribution of wealth, and a drain on the tax system.

Socialism is our god, and Obama is his prophet. Its sacrifice is personal freedom. Its priests are politicians and communist ideological organizations. Its church are legislatures and executive branches in government. Its covenant promises fairness and sameness for all. It delivers power and wealth those who already possess it and takes away opportunity for those out of power and destroys of the economy and future for others.

Liberalism is our god and the Democratic Party is his prophet. Its sacrifice is freedom, integrity, opportunity, and wholeness. Its priests are the fascist elites in government, education, and bureaucracies, who wish to control others’ thoughts and actions. Its churches are political parties, universities, and corrupt professional organizations. Its covenant promises unbridled freedom for perversion of the natural law and oppression for all who disagree with it. It delivers the breakdown of society, constitutional government, and true freedom for morally minded people, especially faithful Christians.
I ate many a meal across my sister’s dinner table from that man, wondering if he knew he was sharing pleasantries with a member of the “Cult of Moloch”.

Yeah. I FEEL for you. I totally get how hypocritical stances could result in people have a bad impression of someone. TOTALLY get that.

Now we know your secret Vay. Sharing all those family dinners with a guy like that has given you zen-like patience that carries over into conversations with some posters on this forum.

Haha you haven’t read me whining in the Oklahoma thread lately, I guess. Though my avatar change has nothing to do with this website, I think I sound like it looks - but thanks for the encouragement, nevertheless.
