Mpox (Monkeypox) 🙈 nasty!

People in Taiwan are vaccinated against smallpox, so monkey pox shouldn’t be an issue here.

Edit…
Only about half are vaccinated and it wanes after 10 years, so it could still be a problem.

Very good point.
U.K. stopped mandatory vaccination in 1971!
I’m ok being an old man I was.

Good to know the small pox vaccine works on monkey pox too!

Of course it does, it was tested on lab monkeys.

Do you guys know whether smallpox vaccines are available here in Taiwan? My generation (and kind of the previous one too ) didn’t get it as kids, but I saw some of my friends here with the mark on their arms.

That’s the BCG Vaccine. It’s for Tuberculosis

Are you sure about that? Eradicated for 50 odd years and they still give the shot here?

Can’t remember my kids getting it.

That’s a good point. They look almost the same

I think you are right now that I read @marco 's post and read the CDC site. That scar is probably the BCG vaccine and not smallpox. They have stopped universal vaccines it said on the site.

A little digging found that about half of the population has been vaccinated and it wanes after 10 years, so Taiwan is not out the jungle yet.

Monkeypox outbreak: Europe now has more than 100 cases

Do you have any sort of scientific basis, or better yet, a specific term, for this “general build-up of immunity”?

It’s not an unreasonable proposition. People were told to stop doing all of the things that we know contribute to good health, such as going outside, socialising, and exercising.

That’s a lot of sex. Or maybe they should start wearing masks again?

They couldn’t have given us the summer before they moved on to the next one.

And just like that, everyone is chasing The Latest Thing like a cat watching a laserpointer.

If they start talking about masks, lockdowns, and vaccines, I think I’d better start building my bunker.

Don’t worry. From the article above.

“It can be fatal in very less than one per cent of people, so it is not a fatal disease.”

Wait! They closed down the world for two years for another virus that is fatal in very less than 1 percent.

Can’t remember the name.

Biden is already talking about vaccines.

Last I heard they’d ordered 15 million doses. Funny how 15 million doses just happen to be available for something that didn’t exist last month.
