If the number is the same as for citizens companies won’t be able to discriminate.
Neither new nor old formats work at the DMV (監理站) online account registration.

Forgot to update here:
@fifieldt I was made aware of this on Reddit.
https://www.einvoice.nat.gov.tw/APCONSUMER/BTC251W/
Input field for ID has REGEX check
[A-Z]{1}[A-Z12]{1}[0-9]{8}
Only new ID format not accepted.
@fifieldt I am on a roll with government websites today
https://edesk.bli.gov.tw/na/na_gsp_login.jsp
has regex check
/^([A-Z]+[1-2]+[0-9]+[0-9]+[0-9]+[0-9]+[0-9]+[0-9]+[0-9]+[0-9]+)$/
New and old format not supported!
Somebody needs to re-read the chapter on regexes.
The other REGEX also accepts invalid ID numbers
e.g. AZ12345678
The ‘correct’ old way to check would be
[A-Z]{1}[A-D12]{1}[0-9]{8}
I got my new ID Number and updated it in the Android HSR App and the Android EZ-Way Customs App. Both accepted the new number without any problems.
The HSR App seems to accept any number now. (Had the numbers switched around A009 instead of A900. Was accepted by the system anyway.)
Wait, what?
I think it’s “Let’s fix it Taiwan style”
IMO this is actually the correct solution to the ID number issue.

If I lost my APRC card and applied for a new one, would they automatically give me the new ID format along with the new card?
Yes.
Thank you, but no thanks.
No choice in that my friend!
