Every presidential candidate since I can remember has been for reducing government. Maybe the real nutjobs are the ones who buy what they are selling.
The more I read about Ron Paul the more I like him.
shrugs You don’t become Politician of the Year by the McLaughlin group for “being a straight talker” by what you say just during campaigns. So yes, I’d have to agree with McCoy, maybe the nutjobs are the people who support Hillary or Obama simply for what they say while campaigning since its a huge contrast to their record. Speaking of which, Ron Paul has been elected in office far far longer than the two. Ron Paul even returns all the money he doesn’t use which is a huge contrast to any other politician. Not surprising because his campaign doesn’t owe a pile of money like Clinton or Obama.
As for the history people learned in school, well, school history is nowhere near real history. For instance, Columbus was a slaver too, but many books praise the hell out of the guy. Yay Columbus! At least he brought some strains of syphilis back to Europe but that’s not covered in school books.
Also a lot of the flak that Ron Paul got for his “Anti-Lincoln” statement stems from myths. This is from a Lew Rockwell whom supports Ron Paul now but the article was written in 2003. FEEL FREE TO CHECK IF LEW ROCKWELL IS WRONG, I’d love to blast him on it. Here goes:

well he could have said that. he would have been following in a long line of others starting from 1861, and his remarks would certainly have passed without much comment.
by the way generations of historians have also said the actions Lincoln took were necessary and proper.

I would note that Lincoln’s “assault” proved to be temporary.
That’s good. But regarding the last paragraph, did he free those thousands of elected officials and reopen the hundreds of newspapers he shut down? Or did he leave what he did be, after the war?
Did he actually pardon them? I’m just curious because this is not what general Americans are taught in public schools or even in basic college history.
well, he was assassinated before he could have. there was an act of congress in 1863 codifying the president’s right to suspend the writ. his successor Johnson restored it in stages, with full restoration everywhere north and south by august 1866. there’s no reason to think Lincoln would have done any differently, unless you subscribe to the “Lincoln was a dictator” line of argument, which really doesn’t wash.
Given the amount of obese voters in the United States, Paul’s treatment of the audience member in this video is a little rude IMHO.

Even if he is a certifiable nutjob with some questionable soundbites, he is probably the only honest person out there who doesn’t change his mind every week in order to please whoever is lining his pockets. The rest of them are more polished, I admit, but that just makes Ron Paul’s honest, humble look smack more of Jimmy Stewart’s Mr. Smith. I’d personally prefer a Jimmy Smith to another Ronald Reagan (or God forbid, Bush Jr.). He seems more focused on rights than on saying the right thing. To me, that puts him miles ahead everyone else in the game. The thing is, though, it’s not like things are going to change. We’ll get Obama, Hillary, Mitt, or another Republican who isn’t Rudy (ugh.) as the POTUS and that person, whoever he or she is or says during their presidential campaign, will continue to force America to grab its ankles and breathe deep for the benefit of the highest bidder once they finish unpacking the U-Haul parked in front of the White House.
