Russia invades Ukraine: General Discussion 2023

Taiwan is not Ukraine. Also moot to discuss as at this point China is not about to start any war or invasion. Taiwan has warned China that it has missiles that can reach Beijing and other cities that would be attacked if China launches a war against Taiwan.

If it’s moot why are you discussing it with me? Assuming you’re using moot as irrelevant.

Anyway, to answer @BiggusDickus question, why aren’t they attacking Russia directly. Zelensky answered a question along these lines recently and as I recall the answer was that the Ukrainians don’t have the ammunition to spare.

Who knows?

All?

Why not? Putin threatens use of nuclear weapons. One of the nuclear armed NATO countries warned Putin Russia is not the only country capable of nuclear war.

Can’t have the Japanese buying oil from Russian man bad.

Hurting Russia economically is a way to resist wars of occupation without fighting. Aside from passively accepting aggressive territory grabs, or fighting back with bullets and rockets, what other choice is there?

I say good for the Japanese to do the right thing even though it is difficult. But then again I’m anti-war, and didn’t accept the justifications for Putin’s war of aggression in the first place…

Going to be interesting with the St Petersburg get together with 81 countries attending. Talk of ditching the $ for a gold backed currency.

Klaus Schwab praised highly the organization of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. ā€œI was deeply impressed by the scale of the event, as much as the relevance and importance of the matters discussed there,ā€ he said.

ā€œIn the new economic environment and with due regard for the latest technological breakthroughs, we are faced with the need for new cooperation formats tailored to the task of securing wellbeing at the global and regional levels. So we are poised to continue working with the Russian Federation to build ties and search for constructive solutions. I am absolutely positive that Russia, as one of the leaders in responsible global regulation, must play a central role in determining new forms of co-existence in the era of the fourth industrial revolution,ā€ Mr. Schwab added.

The Roscongress Foundation and the World Economic Forum International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation signed a memorandum of cooperation on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017.

During his meeting with Professor Schwab Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov commented: ā€œThe memorandum signed with the World Economic Forum will facilitate joint develop and promote Russia’s initiatives, harmonize positions on urgent economic matters of concern to the global business community, and confirm the status of the Russia House project to be launched in 2018 by the Roscongress Foundation as the official Russian residence, which is expected to become a centre of Russian culture and a discussion platform during the World Economic Forum.ā€

Interesting !

More than ā€œinteresting!ā€

Don’t sweat it!

I think that hatred is what caused this mess in the first place :2cents:

Oh, I’m not. My worldview doesn’t include that hatred nor require the decision

That’s a relief. Good for you!

Yes, some of us here have covered the Russians and others being on the same page in the Reset thread. A shame some here have not bothered to check, especially as it will affect them in the future.

Europeans killing Europeans in Ukraine while paying Chinese for weapons is a Chinese dream come true.

Is anybody surprised Russia used profits from selling oil to Europe to attack Europeans? What did you think a totalitarian militaristic dictatorship would do with extra money?? Every totalitarian militaristic dictatorship does the same thing with spare cash

Prime Minister Lloyd George’s goal after WW1 was to return Germany to prewar status UK’s number 2 trade partner. UK succeeded. But Germany’s goal was revenge for WW1. Germany used profits from trade with Germany to rebuild its military (secretly violating the Versailles treaty)

What did George Floyd looters do with proceeds? They bought guns and leveled up their business model to carjacking, armed robbery, murder for money

USA sold oil and steel to Japan up to the eve of the Pearl Harbor attack. Japanese aircraft carriers made of US steel - fueled by U.S. oil - steamed to Pearl Harbor.

Since China joined WTO we have seen the greatest transfer of wealth since 1492. What technology Chinese didn’t steal, your CEOs, and politicians gave away to China — knowing they’d bail out with a golden parachute (before anyone was wiser). We who lived in China could have told Bill Clinton that sponsoring China - a totalitarian militaristic dictatorship— into the WTO would pay for the greatest military expansion and spy network in history.
